Arducopter Battery Life (quad)

Hi All,

Very curious about what size batteries people are using, their payload, and what kind of flying time you are getting. Would love to extend my flight time as much as possible, so trying to find the right battery.

I am currently using ZIPPY Flightmax 5800mAh 3S1P 30C, getting about 12-15 minutes. Also have Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 3S 25~50C Lipo Pack, which last about 10.

copter is a 3DR quad frame with 850 motors, 20amp ESC, telemetry & OSD and Mobius camera.

I also see some users installing 4S batteries.. what is the benefit of this?

  • I fly a maxamps 11,000 on 3S with 11" props from 900kv tmotors. AUW 1.7kg. Hover flight time over 20 mins. Full sticks, about half that. Average flight: somewhere in between.

Looks like you have the right size battery. I fly 5000 mAh and get about the same flight times. You can double up your batteries in parallel and get about 50% more flight time. 4S batteries give you more voltage and more power (zippy). But no difference in flight times. With more power you will need to adjust your PIDs down to maintain stabilize flight.
