AutoLevel - how to use it correctly ?

So far I learned that arming for 20sec enters one of those.

Then you should fly in windless conditions.

Wiki says: "Once you are flying perfectly level, simply land the copter and wait out the remaining time. The accelerometer offsets will be overwritten. The LEDs will cycle for the entire 45 seconds."

The questions are:

1- should you just hover above as tight space as possibly, ?

2.- or should your priority be to keep it absolutely still in air ?

3.- any other suggestions ?

4.-is it better than levelling using a levelling tool across the quad's arms and  shimming up the quad ?

When you level the copter, it uses the ground as a reference. This is often not enough, so you can fine tune it in the air.

Keep it away from ground effect, turbulence, and wind. At about 5ft, keep the adjusting the sticks until the copter no longer drifts on its own in any direction. The accelerometer offsets are adjusted to drive the DCM solution to the new level.

The sticks have a small dead zone that keeps them from adjusting the offsets when they are centered. Once you have the quad still when the sticks are centered, you can lower the throttle and land. Just wait out the last few seconds of the mode and the LEDs will return to normal letting you know.
