cant get xbee's to talk

Hi all-

Im having trouble getting my wireless xbee's to talk.

i have 2 each XBEE09P's mounted to diydrones boards.

I have ArduPilot Mega board v1.4 with Ardupilot Mega 1.0 level software

I setup both xbee units with X-CTU to talk at 57600 baud

When powered up i have blues lights on both xbee's

Problem is i do not see telemetry stream in HappyKillmore or Arduino port monitor. I have the IMU switch set away from connectors..

Ideas where to start?

Thanks

Erik

  • Got it Chris. Everything working good now. I still had the GCS define set to 0. Changed it to 3 and reloaded and looking good.

    thanks

It seems Sparkfun ordered the wrong firmware in its recent Xbees, so you need to reset them in XCTU. We explain how to do that in the manual, but here it is again:

"Note: recent Xbee modules may ship with different firmware and X-CTU may try to download new code, which will probably fail (cancel it). If your Xbee module is reporting that it's an XBP09-DM (rather than the correct XBP09-DP), do the following:

In the Modem Configuration tab select XBP09-DP from the drop-down menu and write it to the module. It will work for a while, then give you an error. Go to the first tab, select 9600baud and read it, which should work. Now go back the Modem Configuration tab, read it and it should now say XBP09-DP. Change the VID and baud rate to what you want (999 and 56k for me) and write it. Now it should work."

We're going to be offering Xbees in the DIY Drones store soon, and they'll be configured right out of the box.  PS: I assume you're using APM 1.02 and in the APM_Config.h file it says GCS_PORT 3
