Crazy FPV Antenna set-up Idea, Would It Work???

I got my first taste of FPV over the weekend and now my brain is running wild. Firstly I need to upgrade my monitor antennas from the basic dipoles it came with. That's simple. But looking up antenna options has my brain running and I came up with this nutty idea and I'm curious if it would even work.

Now I know I could build an antenna tracker so I could use long range patch antennas, however I wanted a simpler non technical solution, would it be possible to get a couple SMA splitters, then mount a few different antennas on a tripod pole in a circular pattern. For instance 4 or 6 patch antennas around in horizontal mount with a slight upwards pitch? this way as the quad circles around me it should stay within the beam of the antennas. I'm assuming my limitation would be power.

Again this is just a crazy idea and I'm curious if it was even possible.

  • sorry dividing by 6 is more like -8dB but you get the point ;-)
  • Hey
You have to think about power in this case.
When you use a splitter, you divide the power by 2 => 3dB loss
If you divide your RF path by 6, its -9dBm.
So their is no point to use multiple antennas in a circle, as a simple dipole has an omni 3dBi gain.
Nothing is better than an antenna tracker.
OR you can use multiple receivers and make a diversity video multiplexer BUT it will be very expensive !
    • I figured power would be the limiting factor.
