CX-20 2.52 FC

Would anyone know if APM mission planner 3.2.1 can go on a 2.52 flight controller, which is installed on my Cheerson CX-20? Thanks for any help.

  • Hello - I realize your post is from a few months ago but I thought I'd share my CX-20 updating experience. If you have not attempted an update yet I would not pursue it further, I updated through Mission Planner to 3.2.1 on my 2.52 Flight Controller to hopefully improve GPS lock and calibration. After doing the update my gps lock (Loiter) no longer works and I'm sure RTH would fail as well. Also I can no longer enter the calibration mode via the RX controller during start up that makes the yellow light flash. I can now only calibrate in Mission Planner. If someone has a relative cure I'd be grateful for your time.

    • Unfortunately on the CX-20 and Quanum Nova - It's a custom firmware... I'm not even sure the original firmware is available to allow you to revert back.

However, I see no reason why you cannot set it up as a normal Arducopter..  you may need to flash the GPS unit to a newer firmware / or buy a newer combined GPS/Compass unit (there are tutorials on google for doing this upgrade)

You would at least be able to use your quad again..

      • My Quanum Nova (same thing) has been running 3.2.1 for a while with no problems (other than me).

        • Hi Graham,

Thanks for the clarification - I thought it would be ok...  After all it's only an APM..!

          Could I ask?

Did you use the stock GPS unit and separate compass unit?

Does it fly ok in 'position hold' mode as opposed to 'loiter'?

Finally did the 'armed' and 'gps' lamps still function?

          sorry for the questions!

          :-)

          • The one with 3.2.1 in flies beautifully.I recently did my first waypoint missions with it so no effect on the GPS or seperate compass. The GPS is the standard one mounted atop the flight controller and compass, again standard is in the dome.

I haven't tried pos hold yet but it did circle, drift and the waypoint missions without a hitch.I've never been so confident about it before. Both arming and GPS LEDs are as usual. You are right about not being able to recover the original firmware after updating but there are custom firmwares out there such as 3.1.5 custom. My other Nova runs a custom 3.2.0 to enable telemetry and aso loiters fine (although I've just hooked it up for a check through)..

            • Thanks for taking the time to reply Graham!

Your mission video was bang on! - I've never had the balls to try it lol!

I have used the 'dronie' and 'follow me' commands from my phone via the Telemetry link though - they were fun!

So to be clear your Nova's are running stock firmware of 3.2.1 and 3.2.0?

I heard of the custom firmwares - but there have been a LOT of reports of issues due the firmware size and complexity causing lag and glitches in the budget flight controller..

p.s I just fitted a cheap 'plastic' Walkera G-2D on my Nova! works a treat.. and very cheap... matching colour too.. :-)

              Thanks again!

              • The 3.2.0 was described to me as "custom" and is simply about enabling telemetry on this board (I think it's a V2.0).I'm not sure where it came from as I am the second owner of this FC and used it as is.I'm not currently using telemetry but I'm assured it works.Probably one of the custom ones on RCGroups CX-20 thread.

The 3.2.1 was straight through Mission Planner official firmware. That's the Nova that flew the mission you watched.
