  • At almost $2k it's a bit more then I would like to spend. Ive been playing with my new GoPro and it's Android app that allows it to stream video via WiFi. Although it's range is and delay make it impractical to fly a quad on, However I have been looking at the new Verizon LTE Mobile Hotspot's, and it is small enough to easily fit in a bixler.

    As far as getting the MP on a tablet, I had planned on buying the MS Surface just for this purpose, but sadly windows RT doesn't allow for outside apps. The new Surface that's coming out sometime this year will have a full fledged version of windows 8, with 1080 resolution and a core I5 processor. And while not exactly as nice or as light as my nexus 10, it would still be an asset in the field.....Perhaps with the same kind of neck strap that we use for our transmitters. Dell is also offering a tablet now that will do the trick, although it doesn't have the power that the new Surface will have.(not that it's needed)

  • Ubuntu looks like the best bet as far asactually running the mission planner on your phone, on a slight tangent, I wonder if it would be possible to have a wireless router on a helicopter set up as an access point to then stream video back to the groundstation. along with whatever else you want?? Pi maybe?

  • but Nexus 10 doesn't support USB OTG, so you have to use it with laptop

    xcl0100-copter-gcs look like work ok via bluetooth.

    Currently I'm going to buy some tab (maybe Nexus 7) with USB host support and try to use OTG cable for 3DR radio clone.

    I hope it will work. If not anyway I can use BT bridge.

    Have a look at www.splashtop.com. While it doesn't run the MP natively, it shows and allows you to interact with a PC desktop via your Android phone.

  • I would love to run the MP on my tablet. As it is now I have to bring something to sit my laptop on, and a makeshift visor. Plus it takes awhile for your eyes to adjust.

    Connected either to your telemetry radio or directly to your telemetry port on the apm. 

    I've not used this yet myself but plan to. I've installed the gcs and it appears to work on my Asus tf101 with android 4. 

  • There are many current android phones that support USB host mode. How difficult would it be to replace the Bluetooth serial connection with a USB serial connection such as the one described here? http://android.serverbox.ch/?p=549202

    I haven't looked at the source code myself, yet, but it seems that it could be done quite easily since it is just replacing one interface with another. I correct in assuming that this will allow me to correct the 3DR radio directly to my cellphone without the need for any additional hardware in between? If so, this will allow me both to use the Copter-GCS app as well as with using my cellphone with its inbuilt GPS for "follow-me".
