FPV with APM 2.5

Hello! I am new to building and flying drones, and I need some help.

I want to be able to fly a plane using the APM 2.5, but get a real-time video feed while i'm doing it (preferably into a pair of goggles). I don't really understand what I need to buy to get this to work.

Could a GoPro camera act as both a FPV camera and a recording camera, or do I need separate camera for the FPV?

Do I need to buy any more electronic boards than the APM (Do they use separate transmitters)? Is this what the OSD board is for, to connect a camera to the APM's transmissions.

I really appreciate the help, and I feel very lost so feel free to add anything of importance when using FPV and the APM.

Thanks a bunch!

  • Joshua - I am working on the same setup. The gopro is used to record HD video not sure if it can be used as the fpv camera. You will need a video tx and rx as well as an fpv camera which is typically a lower resolution. If you want on screen display you will need an osd board as well. In addition to this you need the goggles or a screen for flying. The video tx and rx have several frequency options to choose from 900hz, 1.2 ghz, 2.4 ghz, and 5.8 ghz. And then this will be specified to a certain power for the tx.

Hope this quick explanation helps but there's a lot more stuff thats needed than I had originally thought before researching.
