Interesting compass/loiter problem on quanum nova

Hi i have a quanum nova(cheerson cx-20) with 2.5.2 apm.

Its a terrible quadcopter stock esc's and stock gps had some problem and i changed ESC's with hk f-30a.

and i have a different GPS module Neo-6m with compass.

Anyway i connect my old Gps module to Nova and I used Nova's own compass.

I did compass calibration, compassmot did all calibrations again.

Here is the problem it flies great on Stablize and AltHold. But when i switch Loiter or Position, Nova wants to flyaway!

I check mission planner, i had 11 Sats and 0.9hdop, Values are excellent but it wants to flyaway :(

It seems compass cant read GPS values. But i really cant find it why..

  • Hi.

    Have you find the problem?

  • One possible problem might be your camera if you have one attached. Mobius for example when on, puts out a lot of noise around 1500 which causes interference to GPS. I would suggest turning the extra (optional) stuff you have off and turning them on, one by one until you find the problem. After that you can use aluminium foil or tape to shield.

With me, as soon as i turn on the mobius i get zero sats, turn off and they appear again.

    • There is no camera on Quadcopter :( Stock Cheerson with 9x transmitter and frsky module..

By the way its not a toilet bowl problem it flyaways only one direction.

      • Your ESC could also be spitting out EMI. Im guessing that your measurements (compass and gps checks) were when the multi was stationary and the motors idle, which is a not the same when flying.

Remove the props and measure the HDOP and compass when the motors are given 50% and 100% power. Whatever your problem is, something electrical is most likely giving out EMI.

I dont know where the compass or GPS are on the Nova, but a few cms or shielding can make a *big* difference.

You can use aluminium foil to wrap or make a barrier between your powered motors and esc and see if that *fixes* their problem. Move the foil in and out of the way between compass or gps and others and see if that makes a difference.
