motor issues

Hi all.

I have a single motor that does not appear to want to play. It was working fine (starting at the same time as the rest and stopping at the same time) but one afternoon it stop playing with its friends. it starts late and stops early. i have tried both the auto calibration and the manual of all motors with the same results. i am guessing that i have a "bad" speed controller and have ordered both a replacement motor and ESC. All parts are "standard" Jdrones parts.

anyone have any similar issues? if so how did you discipline you ESC/Motor?

Cheers.

Brian.

  • so, after a reinstall of .25 beta and "first time setup" and ESC calibration, i am almost good i think. i do get some yaw and it drifts backwards and a little to the right. that leads to the question, how close to absolute level does the system need to be while doing the setup. i used a level on the arms and had the bubble in between the lines but not necessarily dead one center. is that close enough or do i need to be more accurate?

oh and one other thing. i am using my old RC Heli radio. this does some mixing and so forth for the Rudder. should i switch to air plane mode to remove the mixing?

  • so it turns out it was the ESC. i replaced it last night and so far, it appears to be working much better. i am going to go through the whole rig and verify everything and hopefully try to get it in the air this afternoon.
  • actually both of your replies could be my problem. i did have a crash that may have done some damage to the motor and now that you mention it Rick, i do remember one seeing a little wisp of smoke once but everything seemed to be fine so i forgot about it.

i will have to wait for the replacement parts to arrive. it seems to take Jdrones parts a very long time to get to me. it has been a month now.

  • Did you have a hard landing/crash that might have damaged the motor bearings? Does it sound differently than the others? I just experienced this with my rig. The motor (Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv) starts slower than the others and, the quad did not level properly anymore and had a tendency to yaw.

Recalibrating the ESCs did not help. I'm now waiting for the replacement motors to arrive (HobbyKing is currently out of stock of this model, so I went with a different brand)
  • I had some what same problem and after one motor and esc, I noticed my transmitter throttle trim was half, after return my trim to zero and recalibrated esc every thing was fine. check out the issuses section don't connect USB after RC battery your see #1 motor and esc smoke right infront of your eyes, connect USB first make sure APM is bootup and connect your battery in that order it seems working okay.
