Motor twitching and beeping

Noob question. I have patiently gone through all the set up, had to re-solder a couple of ESC bullets. But now when I plug the Lipo in one of my motors is twitching and beeping continuously. So I have soldered the ESC and motor leads but it still twitches and beeps.

Any ideas anyone?

  • I had the same problem with just one motor/esc, the other 3 boot up just fine.  The 4th motor boots up with the others with their usual set of beeps, but then it gets stuck beeping forever and will not power up when I arm the other motors they spin up but the 4th does not.  I re-calibrated that ESC manually, and it seemed to help for a while, but now it's back doing it again.  Sometimes if I let it beep for a long time it will eventually stop beeping and give me the two beep done signal, then it works.  But I'm guessing it's just a bad ESC.  I'm going to replace all my ESC's.  Any one have a good recommendation?  I'm thinking of switching to these Turnigy 25A ESCs, any one know if that will be compatible with the rest of my Arducopter kit?

  • I had a similar problem and could not solve it using the steps indicated.  One motor was the problem.  I purchased an additional esc and got everything to work properly.  You may try that.
  • I had the same problem.

Use CLI to get it work.

Calibrate the ESCs during the cli session and activate the magnetometer. This helped me a lot.

  • I just reset to factory settings and recalibrated everything. That has fixed the motor problem. But now when I switch to flight mode the motors do not arm.

    Any ideas anyone. Thanks

  • Hi Paul

    Configured with CLI

With esc plugged into throttle channel it is fine.

All esc configured properly through the APM  and were working fine.

  • Hi Ken,

Normal operation would be when you plug in lipo all motors go through start up sequence which involves a few beeps and a few twitches then they should all stop beeping and twitching.

    Couple of questions:

    - do your other escs/motors go through a startup beep/twicth then settle down?

    - have you calibrated your escs?

    - are you using the standard Arducopter kit or is it something home grown?

    Paul
