Multicopter taking flight at lowest throttle!

I am building my first multicopter (a Hexacopter), and I am having problems with the speed being too high at lowest throttle level.

I am using MultiWii PRO Flight Controller, Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter, and Turnigy Plush 30 amp Speed Controller.

I calibrated the motors by connecting each ESC one by one to the receiver, and they spin slow when the throttle is at lowest, but when I connect everything in the MultiWii FC, the motors spin too fast at lowest throttle, and gets off the ground at the lowest throttle level.

Does anyone know what it could be the problem, and what to do to fix it?

I attached a screen shot of the MultiWii GUI, hoping that it helps you identify the problem? The screen shot was taken when the throttle was just a bit higher than the lowest point...

  • Sure, you have to clear your eeprom when you upgrade the firmware.

A little remark, when you calibrate your ESCs, you have to do that from the multiwii board. Or you have to measure the output range of your TX and apply that on the multiwii software for the min and max command.

Never forget to remove your propellers when calibrating !

    • Well, first of all, that was back in February, since then I learned quite a few more things... and I spent quite a few more $ to fix & replace motors, props, and landing gear from the many crashes I had in the mean time.

I even made my own awesome landing gear: http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/diy-cheap-landing-gear

I got my Hexacopter to fly... finally, but now I am still struggling with the PIDs and altitude hold; so still a lot more tinkering needs to be done.

I am mostly flying in acrobat mode, and I constatly have to adjust height, and position.

I recently bought a Windows Tablet, so that I can take it with me in the field to adjust settings / PIDs, but I did not have the chance to go out with it as much as I would like to, because of the weather mostly.

Anyways, thanks for you post :)

PS. And "yes" I did learn to remove propellers pretty early, when I wanted to calibrate ESCs, and it took off in my living room, good thing that it only turns on the motors for a second or 2...  I almost had a heart attack, LOL... fun times!!

  • Never mind, I figured it out....

It seems MultiWii saves the values into EEPROM, and if you upload to MultiWii with new values it still takes the values from the EEPROM... so the solution is to erase the EEPROM with eeprom_clear sample.  The value for the MINTHROTTLE was high, and I lowered it, but it did not take the new value until I cleared the EEPROM...
