New to the RC World: Questions on simple electronics

Hey guys!

How are you all? I am brand new to the RC world and I am going to be asking a lot of questions ;-)

Hopefully I can share my experiences as well and everybody wins!

So first, I am trying to bind my receiver to the transmitter for the first time. I understand how to do it, but I had a question about the physical nature of connecting my LiPo battery to the receiver in order to bind the two. I am binding a Spektrum DX6i with a Spektrum AR6210, and I am at the part where I connect the battery to the receiver. The problem is is that the battery's female connectors have 4 different slots, 3 with red (positive) voltage, and 1 black (ground). The receiver's terminals only have 3 male connectors. Since my Lipo battery has 3 cells, I figured that each cell was given a corresponding red wire in order to discharge its voltage. If I leave one unplugged, the cells will lose their charge unevenly, which is very bad for these types of batteries. So how do I connect a 4 socket female end connector into my 3 male connector receiver? Is there an adapter? Or can I simply just eliminate one of the wires of the battery?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Cheers,

-Andrew

  • That connector on your battery is called a balance plug and is only for a special type of charging called balancing. Your receiver will get power from a BEC, which takes the battery voltage down to the 5v required for the receiver. This BEC may be a standalone unit, built in to an esc, or part of an autopilot+power module. You can't get 5v directly from a balance connector.
    • OK, I see that now. I got it to work! Thanks for your advice!

  • Maybe I can splice one of the cables? I am not too sure, but I really don't want to electrocute myself ;-) jk
