Pixhawk does not power GPS

Hi all,

I am in the process of building a rover for agricultural research:

Pixhawk

Turnigy 9x transmitter & receiver

LEA-6 Ublox GPS

Sabertooth 2x12 R/C ESC

4800 mAh 12V Li-ion

Problem:

I am having a GPS problem.  I am not getting a blinking blue light nor a solid red.  When I connect to mission planner it used to read "BAD GPS HEALTH" (I think when it said this, it had a solid red light) and now says "No GPS".

I have an Ardupilot 2.5 that came with an LEA-6 Ublox GPS.  I used it with the Ardupilot for a time until I recently purchased a Pixhawk.  When I put the GPS on the Pixhawk, it does not get power.  I read 4.8v at the pins on the Pixhawk when the GPS is not plugged in.  No voltage is seen at the pins on the GPS.  This is the GPS that came with my Ardupilot 2.5.

Theories:

I have looked on the forums here: http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/no-power-on-gps-socket-side-apm2-5 as well as here: http://www.diydrones.com/forum/topics/ublox-gps-lea-6-v1-1?id=705844%3ATopic%3A1058418&page=1#comments.

I took my GPS apart and it doesnt look like there are any bad solders.

I was wondering if the firmware on the GPS needs to be updated for use with the Pixhawk since it came with the Ardupilot?  My confusion is that if this is the case, wouldn't I still see a solid red light indicating power?

My main question:  what are possible problems/solutions associated with no solid red light on GPS with Pixhawk?

    @Josh,

Are you using the correct cable to connect the standalone GPS to the Pixhawk? I believe that you need a cable with a 6 pin JST connector on one end for the GPS and a Hirose DF13 6 pin connector on the other end for the Pixhawk.

I believe that the cable for connecting the standalone GPS to the APM2.5 has a different type of connector than is used on the Pixhawk even though they are six pin connectors. Additionally the GPS/APM cable may be wired differently than the Pixhawk GPS cable.

    • Thomas,

      Thanks for the quick response.

You are correct, it uses a 6 pin cable and I am using it.  I checked the pin outs just to be sure and it is wired correctly.  I suppose it is possible that the GPS is somehow broken.  Has anyone worked with 3DR customer support?  Are they helpful?
