Problem connecting AMP 2.5 to mission planner

Got my ardupilot mega today. Downloaded mission planner and connected apm to usb. Trying to

chose firmware arducopter291quad and press upload but get this message, i am running win 8 if that has anything to do with it. Anyone had same problems, know what to do?

Did you select a valid COM port? (top right-hand corner of the MP)
