Rats! Learn from my fail...

Well I had my quad tied down to a well oiled tripod in order to try and tune the yaw PID values. I ramped up the motor power to try and get a better response and then, SNAP! Here's what happened:3690867790?profile=original

I guess the motor mount isn't strong enough to hold down the motor at full throttle when the quad isn't moving! Here's another angle:

Because my quad's rather small, the rotor came in contact with the cetre structure breaking one of the blades off. Just my luck that it was a counter rotating rotor, of which I have no spares (yet I have six spare standard ones for some reason!!). And of course they're on backorder at HK, so no flying for a while!

Oh well, I guess I'll use this opportunity to load the next beta of ACM2.

  • wait, your motor mount didn't break because of the motors pull force

it broke because the prop hit something (look at the pictures closely)

don't blame the motor mount, it safed your motor bearings!!

  • For the props, try searching Amazon for 10x4.5 props.

I got a good stock of replacements there.

  • the problem is that the motor MOUNT only is screwed to the arm.

nex time, drill two holes in the arm at the distance of the inner motor mount holes, and then fix the screws from the bottom of the arm, through the motor mount, up to the thread of the MOTOR.

that way the motor is pulled to the arm directly, there will be no chance this happens again.

BEWARE not to use a too long screw, and check it well - if it's too long it will penetrate the motor too far and rip the motor's coils. = dead motor. (yep, experience...)

  • You might of over tighten the screw and stripped it out.  Causing the screw to pull out out of the motor.

  • sorry to hear that man. But interestingly - I also only seem to break the counter-rotating props! I still can't understand why. but I have a whole box full of the rotating partners of long lost counter-rotators. Same on my mikrokopter!

    strange?!?!

Looks like some of your screws weren't long enough to get a grip on the motor. The motor mount is only as strong as it's attachment to the motor.
