Hello all!
My friend and I have ordered all necessary components for a first-time build. We have traversed this site as well as others, and have amassed a fair understanding of unmanned aerial vehicles and the operation of xbee/lawmate/etc. My friend with whom I am working has a pilot's license and a ham operator's license. We would like to use a GCS for live feed, but do not understand how the software receives the live camera feed, seeing as how the xbee cannot transmit video signals. We will be purchasing lawmate 1.2ghz 1000mw tx/rx, as well as the xbee, after the basic system arrives.
We have read through the ArduPilot google code site several times, as well as the GCS sites.

We really appreciate any help with our question!

  • Thanks a ton to both of you-would not have found this on our own!
    Will look into the 3DR!

  • Most people use a USB video capture device.  I use the "EasyCAP" device, which is a cheap one you can find on ebay.  You just hook the analog rca video cable from your video receiver to the capture device and plug it into a usb port.

I would skip the xbee and get a 3DR radio instead.  The 3DR has better specs in every way, is cheaper, and has a lot more (open source) firmware features.  From what I've read here the xbees have a ton of problems.  My 3DR works like a champ.
