  • That's part of the definition of eular angle, used to represent attitude.
    Let's say an attitude start with level, pointing north. Then you pitch it back for 120 degrees passing zenith. Which is actually end up with first yaw 180 degrees, pitching 60 degrees, then roll 180 up side down.

    The way it is defined is to ensure that there is only one representation at each orientation.
