Hello folks,

Upon my first flight with my y6 after months of preparing, during take off the top front right propellor came flying off as a result of the nut coming off the threaded aluminum propellor adapter.

Thankfully I managed to land right away with no real issues (first time nervousness mostly).

Now my issue is there are no retailers within 400km of my city thus I don't think I have any options but to purchase a replacement online.

Now this does take time (shipping ect...)

So my question is, are there any other viable options to replacing the nut which maintain the propellor in place? Or does futureshop or perhaps the source (canada retailers) sell such a nut?

Would there be a solution to this loss perhaps obtainable at home depot or canadiantire (my local hardware retailers) ?

  • I wrote 3DR and requested the make both right-handed and left-handed treaded propeller shafts.  What I found out is that I occasionally tip my multi-copter and touch a clockwise prop into the ground often with the motor spinning and this causes the hub and prop to spin off.  If 3DR provided left handed threaded shaft, this problem wouldn't happen as the motors and prop would be forcing hub to stay on tightly.  Not sure why no one has addressed this.  Just my two cents worth.

    • I use 242 Loctite.....on everything.

If you are using the old style propeller nuts, as in the picture, i have some spares i can send you. Drop me a PM.

The newer Y6 use these https://store.3drobotics.com/products/propeller-fastener-kit
    • Thanks Bill, I'll send you a PM when I get back home today.

These new fasteners seem like a far more viable option compared to the old style (which i'm currently using).

Would they fit on jDrones 850kv motors? It would appear so but just to make sure, always better to ask I feel.

My reason for suggesting home depot was more a temporary solution, as I'm 3.5hours drive north of Toronto, where there is virtually nothing in the line of rc shops (although I have heard brief mention of a store with very limited rc stuff in the neighbouring city Sudbury) and online delivery times tend to vary depending on where the retailer ships from (canadadrones, and great hobbies seem to be by far the quickest delivery times so far to 3dr  approx 1.5 weeks, to finally hobby king 2.5weeks).

The move to these new fasteners would be ideal of course.

      Thanks Again.

  • I think the thread on the motor shafts is a regular old metric M4 thread.  Remove one of the others and take it to Home Depot.  They have thread gauges and bolts you can compare it to.  They should have one in stock.  Some here have replaced all of the prop nuts with nyloc nuts.  Those are the ones with the nylon rings part on the nut so the nut can't back off on its own.  HD might have those in the correct size, too.  Look for those in the specialty fastener drawers beneath the bags of nuts and bolts hanging on the wall.

    • Looks better. I'd still suggest you put the antennae out on the arms a bit, but I'm not sure how long your antenna leads are. You are still going to have to get the signal to travel through the wiring and pix hawk to reach them where they are. Diversity between the two is much better, though.
    • Perfect, i'll head on over to home depot and check it out....Thanks!!!

On a different note you'd be happy to know i made a few antenna adjustments
