This is where we discuss all things related to the 3DR Arducopter Y-6, from Tuning, to issues, to mods.
Does anyone still build these? What's the state of affiars for DIY and coaxial hexacopter builds?
I've been fascinated with Y6 designs for years and have been wanting to craft my own but never had the finances to do so. FInally came into some extra cashflow and want to put it towards a drone. I just became FAA certified and have been doing this commercially as a side hustle in tourism. I currenlty have experience with DJI products. The allure of creating my own has always stuck though, as a fun side project. I've seen Y6 builds that are big enough to carry a DSLR and that's the direction I…

Finally, the rain is gone and I just bought new props. Will be balancing tomorrow and hopefully getting some flying. Sorry you guys have the chill weather.
I hear you, Nathaniel and DG... It's Freezing here in Costa Rica as well. Yesterday it dropped all the way down to 79!!! :-)
+1 DG!! My pipes froze overnight and I spent half my Saturday thawing them out! No broken pipes though. The high on Monday is supposed to be a balmy 3°F.
Regards,

Wow, that would be a nightmare to have happen. I could only imagine.
80 degrees? That's disgusting. It's going below zero this week here.
Ah! Finally after having to repair my Y6 from an unfortunate mishap back in December I was able to get a really good flight tonight. I've been having issues with what I though the controls being reversed. Seems my Taranis had the labels wrong all the time. I was reversing what I though was pitch and it turned out to be roll. It's been driving me nuts but when I finally realized what was happening it all became clear. My Y6 ( the Green Goblin ) is now flying again and very nicely. Just have to adjust the yaw and give it a little more authority. Can't wait until tomorrow, I'm off and it is supposed to be almost 80 degrees, Sunny skies until latter in the evening.
@ David Anders
I incorrectly assumed he already had 4s since mentioning the 1045 (figured he meant 1047) props. He has the 2013 Y6 then. I thought it was 1047 top and 1147 bottom for that version on 3s and Y6A configuration. If it is using 4x1045 props, his throttle at hover is likely well over 60%.
Nishid, sorry for giving you bad information. Good luck with your Y6.
@Vu Tran
I sent an e-mail earlier. All I have gotten so far is a link to the ESC calibration page. Not sure if I did not make it clear that I ran twice the ESC calibrations, so the link does not really help me all that much... And calling is a bit prohibitive, as I am overseas in Panama (the one in Central America, not the one in FL!). However, if you guys work on Saturdays, I could be inclined to give you a call...
DG, not quite true. We were running 3S 5000s for quite a while and they were more than fine. It was only until we started lifting heavier weights that we made the jump to 4S. If Nishid has the 3S batteries already, then there's no reason why he can't use them.
Nishid, I will say though, the 4000 will likely drain very quickly, so please make sure you have adequate battery monitoring in place.
Nishid, you need 4s not 3s no matter which battery is chosen.
What exactly did you buy?
I should mention that 3DR is using MS 4s 10000mah 10c batteries on their flagship X8. I see no reason why they wouldn't work on a Y6.
That said, I would not use a MS 10c battery less than 10000mah on a Y6B, unless they are 2x 5200 run in parallel (2p). The 10c rating is overstated IMO.
