UAV work

Hi AllI have been trying for three months to get permission from the CAA to do some paid work with my drone, I have not even had a reply yet, I have sent at least 10 reminders but still nothing.I have people awaiting my services and willing to pay for them but, I will loose them if I don't get the permission soon. I have carried out some photography work for free to stay within the law.I am a member of the BMFA,I have been flying radio controlled model for 30 years on and off, I was also a paramotor pilot for 10 years and former member of the BHPA, so I know air law and only want to fly legally. Is there anyone who knows a contact who could help me gain permission to do paid work with my drone? Thanks for your help in this matter.Best RegardsMartin

  • Hi Martin,

I live in the UK and I'm a long time (48 years!) BMFA (SMAE) member/model builder and flyer,

I'm also a large commercial jet UK-CAA, EASA/FAA licensed Engineer.

Unfortunately the legislation is a rapidly changing set of goal post's :-)

But please take a look at the attached CAA Information notices, Etc.,  which may help you out,

    Cheers

  • Hi Justin

Any help would be much appreciated, I have been trying for 3 months already, get an automated answer saying they will deal with it in the next 10 days and then nothing, I have been on their site and downloaded the paperwork but am stuck as to what information they need, some of it makes no sense, I have called them and they say they will pass me to someone who will be able to help and then it goes back to an automated voicemail telling you to visit the web site. Very frustrating, it's no wonder there are so many idiots flying these things totally illegally.

I have work lined up and will loose it if I can't get the permission soon.

    Thanks

    Martin
  • Hello,

I think I can be helpful here. There is a specific Section 333 exemption that you need to apply. These petition for exemption can take 120 days or 160 if you are trying to have a 'new ' UAV approved.

Working with the FAA is not an easy process of course.

If you are serious about getting your Section 333  exemption fast, and its necessary, I can provide consulting to make this process as quick and painless as possible.

    Thank you
