Just to confirm, we are talking about the Fry Sky TH9X, correct? I've always wanted to swap out the batteries that came w/ it for a lipo/mod of some sort. I'm going to look into Michael Burmeister's suggestion for the Turnigy 9XR below.
I'm using one of these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16529__Turnigy_2650mAh_3...
I replaced one of the connectors with the connector on the 8 cell battery pack that came with the TX.
2650 mAh 3S Lipo that charges with the same charger as the IRIS+ batteries. The battery lasts a LONG time and I recharge when it gets down to 10.5-11.0 volts.
I use an 8 pack of Energizer Nickel-Medal-Hydride batteries. They last a long time and charge up over night if need be.
I set the transmitter warning at 9.5 volts.
Note that not all Nickel-Medal-Hydride are the same. I like to get the 2300mah batteries. The ones that come with the charger are only 1300mah so don't mix them with the others or your transmitter will suddenly go dead on you. You need to read the very fine print at the top of the battery.
My rule of thumb is "new location, new batteries." In a open and familiar location I let them drain down pretty low, even to the point where the TX starts to beep at me. Of course, the lower the batteries the closer I like to keep the Iris+. I think it mostly common sense.

Thanks for the heads up! When I destroy this one, I'll know what to buy next ;).
If your going to do that then you should use this one.

This one has under voltage protection so that if you leave the transmitter on for a couple of days you don't destroy the battery.
Will that fit?
