What is Pixhawk 2?

www.pixhawk2.comPixhawk 2 is a small cube, with a 38.5mm square footprint. All connection to the cube is via a DF17 connector coming out the bottom of the cube. This modularity allows for multiple form factors to suit multiple platforms. For the stand alone market, it will be coming out in two form factors to start with, a "Full" configuration, and a "mini" configuration. The full will have connectors for everything, the kitchen sink.... While the mini is restricted to the bare essentials. For RTF's or kit aircraft, I am working on a series of plug and fly systems, that allow you to remove most of your wiring from your aircraft, and take advantage of the easy to use modular structure. The cube also has a massive quality advantage. Given that every single pin is available on the DF17 connection on the base, it allows complete factory full motion testing and calibration of each cube.Pixhawk 2 is continuing to grow. When we release the Pixhawk 2 stand alone, it will be using the latest sensors available on the market, in a form factor that allows the ultimate in flexibility. Please note. Pixhawk 2 Stand alone is NOT a 3DR product. It is a community driven product, designed by the community for the community.A key requirement for my partner companies who will be making this will be active support of the community.Looking forward to announcing more info soon!Philip RowseLead Systems EngineerProfiCNCLead EE on Pixhawk 2 PX4 and Ardupilot Dev team member(formally 3DR sponsored)

    • good work there. looking forward to this one :)

  • Hey Philip,

I cannot be more excited for the upgraded Autopilot. Just a stupid question, I want to know how is it comparable with a PixHawk1 in terms of operatability and physical connections as i do not understand whether PixHawk 2 is a stand alone unit like the PixHawk1 or should i mount it on different dev boards or combine with a sensor suite.

    Sorry for the silly question!!!

  • Hey Phillip,

Thanks for providing me with some useful insight into the Pixhawk 2 at the D1 Drone Racing in Ballarat.
We definitely can't wait to get our hands on some boards for research projects at RMIT!

    Keep up the good work

      Awesome! Glad you liked it!
  • Anyone here knows what is this? It's password protected and i can't see?

  • Is there any chance that the Pixhawk 2 will be able to be powered off up to 8.4v?

This would allow us to use HV Servos and power the pixhawk servo rail off of a 2s lipo and still be able to have the pixhawk work if the BEC or battery going to the main power port fails for some reason? Also, most backup guards use a 2s lipo which currently is no good for a pixhawk as if the voltage is over 5.6v (IIRC) it won't power the pixhawk itself.

Just a possible suggestion for added redundancy when using a backup guard or powering HV Servos.

If you get the full carrier board, the servo rail can power the I/O up to 10.5v
Power is from up to two power bricks, giving 5.3v

This allows you to have redundant power, and manual control in the case of both of your power systems failing, assuming you maintain between 4-10.5v
    • Any updates on estimated time of release?

    • apparently during this summer..

we are many to wait their news board

    • Awesome, that sounds perfect. It simplifies a redundancy solution without needing an external integrated circuit for two BECs.
