For those wanting an interim solution to the gimbal issue, I've come up with a bracket to mount a Tarot 2D gimbal to the SOLO. I've made 2 configurations. The first has it's own battery tray and will not affect the warranty. The second does not as I am trying to work with 3DR to use the GoPro connection in the SOLO, and hopefully with their sanction, I can eliminate the need to mount a battery. I've also made extension legs and attached a photo.
The bracket and legs are white to be able to see it mounted, however I will produce them in black.
If anyone is interested, I am making this bracket to mount your Tarot 2D gimbal to the SOLO for only $20.00 Although this solution won't offer the features that the 3DR gimbal will have, it will at least offer the ability to have gimbal stabilized video now. If you are interested please email me.

That's really cool. The solo gimbal is quite expensive as well so it's nice to see alternatives.
I heard there's not much room inside the Solo body itself to squeeze in the dampers and I guess that's why you mounted the gimbal on the outside? That leads to some wasted height of course which likely can't be helped.
Did you use the gimbal connector that's tucked inside the Solo and/or the 3DR port that's hidden behind a small rubber panel on the bottom of the Solo? I guess maybe not because there's not much info out there on these connectors and I also see there's a power wire on the side in the pic.
It's all good just trying to pry out some more knowledge from you on how you did it 'cuz it's interesting and I think others would be interested too.
Right now I'm running it off it's own 3s battery as I was told by 3dr if anything plugs into the electronics it would void the warranty. I trying to get them to allow hooking up the Tarrot gimbal to their connector
If the answer is YES, that means I could mount my DYS 3 axis, which would be nice.
Sory for the delay in getting back to you ,I'm on the road today. What I did was take off the rail mounts on the Tarrot gimbal and use the screw holes to attach the gimbal to the adapter plate, I hope that helps, but something else use have to be concerned with is weight. With an external battery, the mount, gimbal and Gopro this weighs .96 lbs and solo can life a bound according to specs
