As far as the 360 motion thing... Solo is not like any other copter... Don't think of it from the point of view of flying and filming... Think controlling the camera, and the copter looks after itself... If you want a 360 shot, pan the camera.. The copter will do what it needs to...
In cablecam, or orbit, the copter does its thing.. And you run the camera... Yawing won't affect the copters path...
I tested wide FOV modes on the GoPro with it attached to the HDMI cable in the location where the gimbal looks to hold it (pretty much touching the ground) and the legs were not visible with a bit of room on each side for gimbal reaction. Not a for sure answer but it looks promising.

It is a 3-axis gimbal so it will improve video quality, but you will not be able to pan like you described.
