About Me:

I'm a guy that loves to fly.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I want to build my own a UAV to capture remote sensing data, specifically high resolution orthorectified aerial photography. I want a relatively cheap, easy and consistent method of collecting this data on a regular frequency. I want to do this legally and i want my efforts to facilitate the efforts of other members of this community. i hope to learn and help others along the way.

B Duffy replied to Derek's discussion Pseudorange from Ardupilot and uBlox LEA6
"There are other UBLOX GPS options that put out raw as well:
- Neo 7P (easier to find these days than the Neo6P
- M8T

To verify, I have successfully used both NEO 6P and 7P with RTKLIB"

"Update: I just did a duration test with my RTD X5 and flew 1 hr 6mins, over 50km transect distance and resting voltage of 3.73 per cell on landing. Other than the last couple minutes of flight the mission was fully autonomous and ran actual mapping…"

"Hey Richard!
Hope all is well. For those interested, you can find a 50 minute duration X5 mapping system here:

"Wow I forgot I posted this...
3dr now sells a cable for this that comes split. Look in the online store.
Ultimately I soldered my osd cables to the telem cables an used the telem plug on the apm board. I never got the uart2 to work but I can't…"

"Hi Rich,
It's been a long time. The new place looks amazing!
I built up my first X5 mapping plane and man, it's fantastic. I'm running 4400mah (2200x2) and getting 40 minutes flight time with a canon S100 on board. It was surprisingly easy to set up…"

B Duffy replied to Pawel Stepien's discussion Motors and props for X5 in Skywalker X5 APM Group
"I have only had a couple flights so far but I'm using a 980kv motor with a 9x6 prop and it launches easy even in no wind. I'm throwing overhand.
Maybe an 8x5 would give enough thrust for you to launch?"

"Rich,
So far so good. I ran the SIFT and complete 3D reconstruction and it resulted in a single  promising looking model.
Here is the Sparse 3D point cloud:
I'm about to start the CMPMVS process.
FYI, I almost completed the second FLight Riot post…"

I couldn't reply under your last message either.
A couple thoughts...
I think that VisualSFM, unlike many other post processing software, actually benefits from a variety of heights and angles. These shots may not be great for the aerial…"

B Duffy replied to Richard's discussion Using Flying wings for aerial mapping
"Ah yes, now I remember why I didn't use manual focus/infinity...I knew I would forget to set it sometimes on start up.
And you removed all the other features that Luca mentioned? That should help.
Another thing that should be noted is the lens IXUS…"

See the original posting at FLIGHTRIOTIt seems that it is now possible and relatively easy to modify a digital camera to capture wavelengths necessary for producing Vegetation Indexes such as Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI).…
