About Me:

Owner/ designer @ RMD Systems. We develop mobile robotic systems for disaster relief and agriculture. www.rmd-systems.com

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

We manufacture large multirotor airframes for agriculture use and disaster relief. We also design and build specialty payloads such as sprayer systems and imaging systems to compliment our vehicles.

Brian Riskas replied to Riley Smith's discussion Mapping UAV with Parameter Limitations
"Riley-

We make a variety of ready to fly UAVs and frame kits that might be suitable for your needs. I have attached a picture of two of our frames with a 3DR IRIS for scale. The large frame supports 30" props, while the smaller frame supports 18"…"

Brian Riskas replied to David Roads's discussion Large Format Drone
"Pixhawk should be able to fly such a vehicle just fine. I fly pixhawks on much larger vehicles with great results"

Brian Riskas replied to Shian Lee's discussion unstable roll axis
"You log looks good, very low vibration. I would recommend installing a power module to monitor your battery. Other than that you appear to have oscillation on both pitch, roll, and yaw that can probably be tuned out by tweaking PID settings"

Brian Riskas replied to Jon Turner's discussion pixhawk 2.1 with jeti spin pro 300 and tmotor u15 no spin up
"Sounds like quite a monster. I would love to see pictures if you are able to share.
Thanks

If the pixhawk 2.1 is the same as the original pixhawk, then all you should need is a single BEC plugged into any spot on the servo rail in order to power the opto-isolators on the ESCs. If I remember correctly, the main difference between the…"

Yes, the sprayer system can spray under autopilot control. I posted a thread about it last year here.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to…"

Brian Riskas replied to Rafi Nahmani's discussion How to get longest flight time on octocopter that has decent payload already on it?
"@ Kurt
Believe it or not, we are using turnigy multistar batteries in series and parallel to achieve 48Ah @ 8S voltage (x6 16000 mah). AUW is 54lbs to stay within Part 107. The craft hovers at approx. 90 amps, and the current draw seems to stay the…"

Brian Riskas replied to Rafi Nahmani's discussion How to get longest flight time on octocopter that has decent payload already on it?
"If you want to optimize for size vs payload, you will probably wind up with an X8 copter running 24"-30" props. We built a similar copter for crop spraying using KDE 7215 motors and ESCs, on a custom frame we built in house. OG's advice is spot on,…"

Brian Riskas replied to Robbie Barnes's discussion Drone Lifting

Yes, still using off the shelf lipos. Due to the large props and lightweight structure, we only load the batteries at ~1.5C, which allows us to get a little more out of the standard lipo packs. We have been looking into an 18650 based…"

Brian Riskas replied to Robbie Barnes's discussion Drone Lifting
"Hello-
I have built a few of these types of craft here in the USA for aerial spraying. We manufacture a custom frame with removable arms, KDE 7215 motors and ESCs, Pixhawk and 30" props in an X8 configuration. I am not sure what is required for CAA…"

Brian Riskas replied to Richard Morrissey's discussion Building a Drone for ecology work.
"Richard-
You should try to figure out what sensor loadout you need and then try to build a vehicle around that. Fixed wings can and do work well in wind, as David says above. Rotary wing craft are very nice because as you know, they can take off and…"

Brian Riskas replied to Richard Morrissey's discussion Building a Drone for ecology work.
"I tend to agree with OG, you are better off buying a ready made system. We built a large X8 a few years ago for agricultural spraying because we couldn't find anything on the market that would suit our needs.
We ended up with a pretty nice unit that…"

I built a large X8 multicopter and sprayer system last year that was used for spraying in agricultural settings. The platform might be useful for your application. I sent you a message with a link to the build.

Thanks

Brian Riskas replied to Bill Elias's discussion UAV sprayer for agriculture

My sprayer system has no pump, instead my system uses a pressurized gas cylinder with a solenoid valve. I have a custom driver circuit that opens the solenoid valve when triggered by a voltage. In my case, I use channel 7 optional set to…"

I am glad you liked the post about building the X8! There is nothing wrong with a submerged sump pump setup, I looked at that option when I was building the tank. The customer liked the idea of a pressure vessel with less moving parts, and it…"

Thanks for the compliments, we are really happy with how this vehicle has been performing. To answer your questions:

Depending on the application, there are a few ways we can tell if the tank is empty. The pressure tank carries an external gas…"
