About Me:

41 and married with two boys. Almost 20 yrs of RC aircraft experience, small park flyers to 40% 3D gas aerobats. 25 yrs of experience employed as a industrial / commercial electrician, would love to change careers though, electrical work is physically demanding and not easy on the body!

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

As a hobby I have been building and flying multirotors and fixed wing aircraft for aerial photography for several years. All have been my own design. Started with line of sight and moved to FPV and recently started to fly pre programed missions.

Chris Barth replied to Charles Linquist's discussion Intentionally shutting off motors in mid-flight then recovery
"Depending on your quad size it may be possible but when stabilization is turned back on it will stress the hell out of the quad.   A lot of variables here to say it will be safe, unless its a strong acro quad with carbon fiber or composite props I…"

Chris Barth replied to amirhossein eshtiaghi's discussion LiPo battery issues in ArduCopter User Group
"Yes, a lipo can have cooling between cells,  For very high discharge applications I have incorporated spacers between the flat cells wen building my packs. I don't do it anymore since I've found little benefit.

Chris Barth replied to amirhossein eshtiaghi's discussion LiPo battery issues in ArduCopter User Group
" I've been using and building my own lipo and lion for many years, I have a lot of experience with them in high drain applications. The only advantage of lion over lipo that I can see is that the cells can be installed into the arms of a multirotor.…"

"Yeah, even if they are made by SunnySky these motors aren't the same quality as the genuine versions. So yes they would be considered fakes.

The whole Chinese cloning phenomenon is baffling, I guess I will just chalk it up to the differences…"

Chris Barth replied to Andre's discussion Taranis / FrSky X8R Sbus issue with Pixhawk
"Do you have foam over the baro?  Something had to change between receiver changes.  Have you tried the jeti again to see if the instability still happens?"

Chris Barth replied to Louis Novy's discussion Sunnysky motors, whether they are fake or real
"I'm still not 100% convinced that these motors are fakes. There is a chance that SunnySky actually make these, but these "fakes" are actually motors that don't meet the QA standard. Basically, these are rejects and SunnySky uses different bearings…"

Chris Barth replied to Louis Novy's discussion Sunnysky motors, whether they are fake or real
"Yes, the 3508's do seem to be genuine from BangUgood.  I had a order with them last summer for eight x2216-9 1100kv and four x3508 700kv motors.  The 2216 were all fake! Some had the stators glued 2/3's in, three didn't work properly, they either…"
