About Me:

I built my first quadcopter following a build posted online. Since then I have made a 1 hour hover quad and a Tarot 680 hexacopter. I recently built a ZMR250 mini-h quad, so I hope to learn how to race soon!

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I want to fly my quadcopter using FPV with the added security of ardupilot failsafe features. I'm also attempting to create 3D models of structures from photos gathered from my multirotors.

Christopher Gehrich replied to Christopher Gehrich's discussion Pixhawk with SONAR Vertical Drift in Alt-Hold in ArduCopter User Group
"Turns out the cause was my sonar. Once I disabled it in firmware the hex could hold steady height.

Sonar was probably detecting the landing gear foot, confusing the altitude readings between baro and sonar."

"are you saying that my sonar is always reading between 20 and 30 centimeters? that could be caused by my landing gear. I have tried to mount the sonar out of the way but perhaps I need to angle it outward."

Christopher Gehrich replied to Christopher Gehrich's discussion Trouble With 5V Linear BECs in Parallel in ArduCopter User Group
"One of the weirdest problems that I discovered was that when I only connected the 5V pin of ESC #1 to the pixhawk and powered the gopro from there, the ESC temp measured 300F max at 0.5 emissivity. ESC #2 also became very hot when powering the gopro…"

Christopher Gehrich replied to Christopher Gehrich's discussion Choosing ESCs for Multirotor Based on Li-Ion C-Rating Limitation
"Your testing method is a good one and I have some 4S lipos that I could test with. I'll reexamine the max power characteristics with ecalc as well.

It would be nice to get some data as to what PWM range gives me a 2:1 thrust to weight, then tell…"

HelloMy long-flight-time quad (APM 2.6, or Pixhawk) is a specialized aerial survey platform using 4S4P unprotected NCR18650B Li-Ion batteries. I have been using Afro Slim 20A ESCs successfully, but I want to be certain that they will not pull more…

Christopher Gehrich replied to Christopher Gehrich's discussion Help please. Quadcopter vortex ring state? Loss of lift when descending at normal speeds.
"SOLVED: My quad was overweight for the props I was using. After switching to 10x4.7 from 9x4.7 props I no longer experience VRS."
