Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Today UAV's are mainly an extensions of RC model toys. I'm looking forward to a new kind of UAV... the ones that can really fly alone for hours and have a grate error correction capabilities. Basically a AI UAV! :-) Yeah, I know... hard stuff.

Dorjano Baruca commented on Nadia Nilsen's blog post LightWare launches the LW20 LiDAR
"One question though... What is the point of 1cm resolution if the accuracy is +/-10cm (got that from the website)?
Am I missing something? The objec 50m apart would be measured 49.90m or 50.10m, right?
Great tiny thing by the way ;-)"

Dorjano Baruca commented on Joe Renteria's blog post Static thrust optimized EDFs
"You really have to laugh when you watch their videos. I'm wondering why not use hundreds, or better thousands of ETF motors. That would really be A distributed thrust."

Dorjano Baruca commented on Joe Renteria's blog post Static thrust optimized EDFs
"I believe that EDFs one day will replace props, but not wit such a badly designed system as this ETF is. In their own tech. documentation Nevea Aerospace claim a thrust between 4,5 and 5,25 gr/W.  A "usual" BLDC motor+ propeller can achieve much,…"

Dorjano Baruca commented on Joseph Aletky's blog post Worlds Smallest Pixhawk Powered Quadplane: SUAVX Nano VTOL UAV
"Pascal, you are right. But it's still much, much, more efficient than carrying a 4 death weights. Plus, the props in horizontal fight act as an additional aerodynamic load. Not to mention 4 ESCs, 4x3 heavy wires and so on. Regarding the pitch of the…"

Dorjano Baruca commented on Joseph Aletky's blog post Worlds Smallest Pixhawk Powered Quadplane: SUAVX Nano VTOL UAV
"Hi Joseph
One question though.... What are the four motors doing during a horizontal flight? In a aeroplane mode. Let me guess... nothing. A death weight, right?
This configuration is no good. You should use the same propulsion for VTOL and for…"

Dorjano Baruca commented on Jiro Hattori's blog post Two hour and 12 minutes flight by PEM fuel cell
"Ok, so... one year later and still nothing! Their website is a joke. When you try to send them an enquiry you get an error... pointing you to some google email. Although the specs are quite good. As much as 3x better energy to weight ratio compared…"

"@Nico D
May I ask you what you don't like in Navio2 solution? ...or what does it lack? I'm just curious. I would like to go that direction and I'm considering either Navio2 or 4Gmetry III (IV). Qualcomm's solution is still a bit blackmagic for…"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Volta Robots's discussion 4Gmetry 4 in Volta Robots
"WoW! That's a steep jump from 4Gmetr III ($300) to IV ($600)!
What's the justification?"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Neil's discussion LiDAR on Stabilised mount
"Ahh forgot! Yes I do have a 3D printer so I'm printing this thing out. Plus I  have a CNC 3D router. You have to have this things if you want be a developer, otherwise outsourcing might kill your dev-ambitions."

Dorjano Baruca replied to Neil's discussion LiDAR on Stabilised mount
"Therefore, yap, you need a gimbal. The one (designed yesterday night) on the pictures is based on real SF40 with some assumptions. So centre of gravity is more or less there. Since you are looking for a custom gimabl t can be fully optimized to be…"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Neil's discussion LiDAR on Stabilised mount
"This gimbal was designed as a proof of concept last night and is not done yet. Anyway the used components would be:
BaseCam SimpleBGC 32-bit Tiny
(I use BaseCam gimbal stabilizers mostly. This one is just for two axes and is tiny. But for two axes…"

"Well the tech is "widely" available, but ...not for all. BLACK HORNET NANO
Nano UAV - Black Hornet - PD-100 PRS
So, first try to get one of this Black Hornets. Tthen get rid of motors, props, FC and what remains are sensors cameras (3!) GPS! Done!…"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Olav Bakka's discussion Payload of 20 kg or more
"Well..... What about punting some booms on your canoe, them some ESC, and motors on top a big 2x10000mAh LiPo, a simple FC and you are good to go. You even don't need TX/RX as you could just use a wire and some simple command attached.
And here you…"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Neil's discussion LiDAR on Stabilised mount
"It just pulled me in :-). OK, so her is an example of what might a gimbal for SF40/C look like. But I'm still not sure if you need one. Because, as I said before; light and sampling rate are quite fast. Anyway there is a lot to discuss here. It…"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Neil's discussion LiDAR on Stabilised mount
"Opss! Sorry, from the picture you post ...it looks like two LidarLight opposing each other.

Please check this two videos below. Handheld! So you bought the SF40/C. Well neat little thing. Just a bit too pricey but for 100m that should be OK. …"

Dorjano Baruca replied to Neil's discussion LiDAR on Stabilised mount
"Hi Neil! Any progress? I would suggest a 2-axis gimbal (pitch &roll). But one more question; Why would you put two LidarLight sensors on your "scanner"? That might be good for robots that operates in a rather confined space like rooms or so, but for…"
