Fabio Varesano replied to Al Testani's discussion FreeIMU Firmware on ArduIMU
"I doubt that having a GPS will improve heading accuracy much since it is a pretty low frequency and accuracy source of heading.. but I'm not really very experienced in GPS to say much about it."

Fabio Varesano replied to Al Testani's discussion FreeIMU Firmware on ArduIMU
"Yeah, some residual drift is expected. Also note that with time it will stabilize if you held the board still.

In theory we could get rid of it by better gyro calibration with thermal compensation but that's not something I'm very interested in…"

Fabio Varesano replied to Al Testani's discussion FreeIMU Firmware on ArduIMU
"I've been also contacted by another ArduIMU user who also ported the FreeIMU code to the ArduIMU.
He provided me his code at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15226597/libraries.zip
His approach has been different from Al. He modified the I2Cdev bus access…"

Fabio Varesano replied to Markus Savonen's discussion Atmel Inertial Two (ATAVRSBIN2) + arduino?
"If you look at the code for the IMU fusion board, it's pretty easy to understand how the accelerometer is handled. It should be pretty straight forward to change that code to support the Kionix accelerometer. Just change the initialization to match…"

"John, I can't elaborate much.. the BMA180 is a very well known and good quality accelerometer, used by other projects too (FreeFlight IMU).. same for the ITG3200. The MPU6050 which will be featured on FreeIMU v0.4 is still not available so I can't…"

"Thanks guys for mentioning my FreeIMU project. FreeIMU is a truly libre hardware project, released under CC-BY-SA and even developed with KiCAD, a libre PCB editing software, so that you don't have to rely on proprietary software to study or modify…"
