Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Hey Harry, I'm still around :-) Haven't been playing much, but summer is on the way....

I'd love to see what you came up with. I've been eyeballing the new 32 bit flight controllers but still haven't found one in the 28mm width I need for the…"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Harry, little update. I looked through my stuff and have come up with a few options, the best two are; the arduIMU with the CERB40 (STM32F4 processor), or the STM32F1 IMU (same sensors as the APM 2.5)...

Wife just left for Texas for 10 days so I…"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Well, I ended up "volunteering" my weekend to the wife, we camped, hiked, and bird watched :-) It was a good break but kept me away from the computer LoL.

The multiWii thing does interest me as far as similar bits and pieces. I've also been eyeing…"

Jeff Smith replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"Got the 600 up and flying again yesterday, had to go back to training gear to sort out some PID issues. I tried using a parameter file from the 2.7.1 I was using and that resulted in no pitch/roll? So I ended up just inputting the swash servo trims…"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Sweet! That means your getting some flying in :-)

I have my APM's solid mounted, it seems to me that vibration issues stem from props, motors, and rotors being improperly balanced, together with the damage they do to the supporting bearings...
If…"

"Don't know about the APM with a simulator, I started with the Align 3GX (useless) on the 600efl and was to scared of crashing. I then bought an Align 250 flybarred to learn on and crashed that once every three battery packs, then got an APM for the…"

"@ KM6VV,
I am a new pilot as well (1-1/2 years), and LOVE my APM for learning with. It gives you self leveling which will give you time to orientate yourself again when things get out of control, also with the advances in "Agro" flight mode you can…"

Jeff Smith replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"I too have been quietly following along :-) The weather here has finally become conducive to flying and I'm getting ready to go through the 600efl in prep for a weekend of fun.

When I put it away for the winter I was on 1.7.3 or something and I…"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"No worries with the APM, if you can't get it working I can likely sort it out if its not a dead processor. Lemme know if we need to send it back and forth.

I got my end mills and the CF showed up early so I hope for a productive weekend."

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Harry, I'm Ok :-) Actually been waiting with baited breath to hear how your test flight went, but didn't want to rush you LoL

I didn't get a notive for the last two post's you made though, maybe because I didn't visit the forum since the notice?…"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Yah, but your is flying and mine is still being built LoL

P.s. I put my IMU/misc flight controller bread board on the wall in front of my work station to be a constant reminder of the goal here :-)"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Harry, if I didn't know better I'd say the tail servo is reversed :-)

Try arming the APM (props off or esc unplugged) throttle it up as though it would be hovering, then rotate the tricopter clockwise looking down on the top. The tail servo should…"

"@ Robert, re direct drive tail (or heavy lift 3D variable pitch hexa in my case)
Hardware is DS929HV servo to Align metal pitch slider to HeliOptions 3 bearing 600 size tail rotor holder with 115mm tail blades (soon to be 140mm) on an Align hardened…"

"Just finished reading the thread and I'm feeling a bit *soft*, you guys don't stop flying just because it turns to freezing a## winter??? LoL

Getting ready to prep the 600EFL for the warm weather us sissies prefer and I must say I'm a bit hesitant…"

Jeff Smith replied to Huib van Dooren's discussion TREX450 with APM2.5 setup problem in ArduCopter (traditional heli) user group
"Roll rate can be adjusted in mission planner, try a very low number like 1500 (degrees times 100). that should calm it down a bit, and remember the APM will increase the signal to the servo until it reaches the desired angle as defined by your stick…"

Jeff Smith replied to Harry's discussion Trying to adapt Jean-Louis' tricopter code to IMU V3
"Well I had no joy trying to compile the Ardimupter code in arduino. Seems that I am missing some of the header files like servo.h, got to find them and get them in the library.

I was able to swap over one of the 500kv motors, pretty narrow…"
