About Me:

Software Development consultant new to the UAV world. Great bridge between really cool hardware and software.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I'm mostly interested in UAV sensor integration, but also in Aerial Photography. I have a CX-20 with the stock APM2.5 and have recently built a S550 Pixhawk Hexacopter.

John R replied to limhwanhee's discussion I want to know how the "Follow Me" function.. in ArduCopter User Group
"Hello,

I'm sure sure how it's coded or where to look in the source code. But in order to use the "Follow Me" function you will need an Android device running the Tower App, or a Windows Tablet/PC with a GPS module connected.

You will also a set of…"

John R replied to Daronfizol's discussion Help me lift off =D
"I would highly recommend only performing tests with props off and spin the motors up in stabilize. You should hear right away whether or not they spin up to full throttle compared to what was happening before. Just don't do it for too long (a few…"

John R replied to Daronfizol's discussion Help me lift off =D
"Wow, yeah no idea how it would have gotten set that way, but I would set it to 1000, write params and assuming everything else is setup right I think you'll have a 3....2....1.....Lift Off!!"

John R replied to Daronfizol's discussion Help me lift off =D
"Do you have a log file or video of the copter trying to take off?
It sounds like something may be off with the throttle calibration in Mission Planner. With the ESC calibration I believe it's just passing the raw pulses from the RC Receiver to the…"

John R replied to Daronfizol's discussion Help me lift off =D
"Is the copter just sitting on the ground with the blades going full-blast when you move the throttle to full? If it's not tipping over or going crazy, you may just have the props on the wrong motors and they're pushing the copter into the ground…"

John R replied to Paul's discussion 2 issues, seeking clarification
"I have a 550 Hex as well running 3.3.3, and recently upgraded to 3.4.1 for the exact same reason (running Craft and Theory FlightDeck). I have not experienced the "crazy" behavior when landing in Loiter mode, but more times than not when landing on…"

John R replied to Gregor's discussion Phantom 4 or DIY drone?
"Simon,So this is what I currently fly as a Hobby AP rig. It took me a LONG time to get it right and I've spent a lot of time and money putting together a package that flies extremely well and gets great video. It misses on a couple of points in your…"

John R replied to cxgiacomo's discussion MinimOSD Extra for Airspace Warning?
"Chris,
Not sure if this will help, but I spent a few minutes screwing around with the code and made a version of the firmware that ONLY displays "WARNING - RESTRICTED AREA!" in the center of the screen. That's it, it does nothing else!
Here's the…"

John R replied to cxgiacomo's discussion MinimOSD Extra for Airspace Warning?
"It looks like the print command to display "No Input Data!" while the OSD is waiting for heartbeat packets is configured on line 1460 of the Panels.h file in the MinimOSD Arduino source code (I'm looking at the Pixhawk/APM version by NightGhost…"

John R replied to cxgiacomo's discussion MinimOSD Extra for Airspace Warning?
"Alright, I think I've just had an "AH HA!" moment and figured out what you're trying to do.

Is the idea to setup a MinimOSD (with or without a camera, video feed doesn't matter) connected to a 5.8GHz Video TX that just outputs a black screen with…"

John R replied to cxgiacomo's discussion MinimOSD Extra for Airspace Warning?
"Are you just saying that you want the OSD to show "WARNING - RESTRICTED AREA" when a Mission Planner Geo-Fence Event is triggered and hide the rest of the data until you exit the restricted area?"

John R replied to Anton Ludwig's discussion Naze32 Self Level Mode?
"You may want to look at documentation for CleanFlight or BetaFlight firmware which is what you will want to run on your Naze32 board.
You certainly can switch between Acro/Level mode (it's called Angle Mode in CF/BF) using a switch on the…"

"Is this the flight controller you're using?
http://www.dragonflyracingdrones.com/product/f3-flight-controller-r...

According to the info on that site is has an MS5611 barometer on the chip, it's the job of the barometer to measure air pressure…"

John R replied to Eric Smith's discussion Voltage Drop on Pixhawk Power module under load
"That Airbotpower board looks pretty cool and a nice all-in-one package. Very impressive design. I wonder if there are any US suppliers that carry it.
I have not had the same problems with the Mauch sensor and my current readings are extremely stable…"

John R replied to Eric Smith's discussion Voltage Drop on Pixhawk Power module under load
"Yes I'm currently running the Mauch Power sensor and BEC on my Hexacopter and it works great!
I'll be honest, the voltage drop is still there as soon as the load it applied (16.8V fully charged, drops to about 15.6-15.7 as soon as I throttle up) but…"

John R commented on Greg Dronsky's blog post 3DR Solo for $399. Is this even possible?
"Looks like they still have the bundle but price went to $499 from $379 yesterday. I have a feeling the price will bounce around awhile until they liquidate the inventory.
