About Me:

Cloud Computing Architect at OrionVM (http://www.orionvm.com.au)

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I designed and built a UAV that won the Young Innovators Award for Aerospace in 2008. Since then I have designed a number of craft including a quad-rotor and an large aircraft to compete in the UAV Outback Challenge. Though currently busy working on my cloud computing startup I am looking to work back into UAVs soon. http://www.orionvm.com.au http://www.aeronautsuav.co.cc

Joseph Glanville replied to Anwar Ali Khan's discussion User Friendly Code
"You should be fine reading the documentation to modify most of the variables (gains etc.)
Waypoints and such.. I think the config tool would be your best way out.
There is no "User Friendly Code".

However I would agree that Ardu needs a little bit…"

Functional is sexy."

Joseph Glanville commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Landing tech could let drones see like pilots
"I believe I saw this tech implemented some time ago when searching for image recognition research papers.
Can't remember the company that did it atm however... mind blank. :("

Joseph Glanville commented on Knuckles904's blog post $40 IMU now available at your local walmart...with a little help from radioshack
"There would need to be some sort of filtering on the data for use of the IMU in games, the sensors they are using are still incredibly noisy and drifty.
It is possible they implement a kalman filter though I think a simpler solution for most games…"

"Read the Ardupilot documentation.
Also check out Paparazzi:

1. Depends, you can use a differential pressure sensor to obtain airspeed. Ground speed can be obtained via GPS.
2. Easy, Barometric altimeter or…"

Joseph Glanville commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post USAF all droned up
"It's all made in China.
If anything they have the manufacturing facilities to pump out more UAS than any other country..
Numbers would be a deciding factor if war become entirely UAS."

Joseph Glanville commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post Lets start using the correct units
"Aye Keith I agree with you, for the moment UAVs will need to conform if they want to co-exist with piloted aircraft in civilian airspace.
Also too true is the use of nautical miles, they are rather useful for working with lat-long calculations.
It…"

Joseph Glanville commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post Lets start using the correct units
"True it would take alot of effort to move the aviation industry to metric units of measurement so your argument is more than valid.
It is also true that at first UAVs will probably be using the traditional Aviation units.
However it does nothing to…"

Joseph Glanville commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post Lets start using the correct units
"Hmm.
The consensus here is that UAV developers and other non-tradional aviation sectors should comply to the current aviation guidelines..
I for one do no believe this is correct.
Current aviation uses an out of date measurement system that is far…"

Unfortunately I will be unable to help you, (currently studying at university in Australia) in different circumstances I would have loved to work on something like this.
However I few things you might want…"

"Nice looking glider.
The VN100 is a very nice piece of hardware too, alot of the hard work of implementing an IMU solution has been done for you in the EKF onboard the chip.
Look forward to watching your progress. :)"
