APM 2.5 (2.9.1) won't connect via USB with Rx connected

I have a brand new APM 2.5, which will connect to the Mission Planner OK with no Rx connected, but as soon as I try connecting with the Rx attached to even channel 1 only, no dice.If I connect via USB first, THEN connect the Rx channels, it all works
