Matt commented on crystal garris's photo
"No, that link is dead. Got another one?"

Matt replied to Omar Rodriguez's discussion CANON SX260 Photogrammetry ISSUES
"I too am mounting an sx260 in an X8. I used rubber motor mounts to reduce vibration, and I am planning on using ear plugs on the camera itself to further isolate it. I too would like to hear from people who have NOT mounted their canon to a copter,…"

Matt replied to Matt's discussion What is the best method of mapping areas that are far from flat?
"Thanks for the response, Gerard, and I see your point. I will do some testing as you suggest, to see what kind of results I can expect from a perpendicular orientation of the camera."

I will be attempting to scan a narrow canyon with my X8 wing soon. I am seeking input on the best method to obtain the best results. The canyon walls are at a very steep angle, varying between 30 and 50 degrees. Would it be best to image the canyon…

Matt replied to Matt's discussion A couple of questions about the Canon sx260hs
"Thanks for all your helpful replies (rolls eyes)

The answer was that you must have the camera in AUTO mode to get access to the option to cancel the image review."

Hi All,I am building an X8 flying wing for a mapping project of a narrow V-shaped mountain canyon. I have a Canon sx260hs camera. But I have run into a problem getting rid of the "image preview", which adds several seconds to the rate of exposures.…

Matt replied to Matt's discussion UAV platform for high mountain prospecting
"I have taken delivery of an X8 flying wing, and in the process of composing a parts list. I am going with APM 2.5, with best GPS I can buy, air speed sensor, the works. I am planning on incorporating both live video and downward photos for mapping.…"

"I am up in CO prospecting this week, and I gotta say that Google Earth really sucks when to comes to accurately depicting how things are on the ground. I am more convinced than ever that GE needs competition in the form of higher resolution aerial…"

Matt replied to Matt's discussion UAV platform for high mountain prospecting
"After doing some research, I would like to use the X8 fling wing for a platform. There are of course other platforms, but its high payload and large wing span should help alleviate some of the challenges associated with high elevation flying. If…"

Take a look at this site. This guys flies his RC planes at 13,000 all the time. I think it is just a matter of customizing a plane appropriately."

Matt replied to Matt's discussion UAV platform for high mountain prospecting
"Well, I found out I will need to find a platform with a greater wing area to accomodate that high of an operational altitude. But I also have to make it backpackable into very remote areas that are at least 10 miles from the nearest road. I also…"

Hi All, I am new to the site, and interested in fabbing up a drone to help me locate lost mines in the high rockies, mostly above the tree line. This will require a platform that can operate up to 13,000 feet, though that will only be 200 feet over…
