Mike Boland replied to zubair hasrat's discussion Autonomous Quadcopter
"Yes, it should be straight  forward.
Just check the manufacturers compatibility of the APM2.8 which I am assuming is a clone Pixhawk.
The APM2.6 was the last 3DR branded 8 bit controller and it still works well using the 3.2.1 version of the…"

Mike Boland replied to David Nelson's discussion Flight Controller transplant into older quadcopter: possible?
"Be thankful of the difference.
You are more likely to have problems converting a Phantom due to their cheap non standard ESC's.
If you decide to go the Pixhawk route then get a small PWM to PPM convertor (couple of bucks on eBay) and you can still…"

Mike Boland replied to David Nelson's discussion Flight Controller transplant into older quadcopter: possible?
"You have a working airframe, so your build is mostly done.
If you put an older APM in then the Rx will just connect straight to it.
The Pixhawk on the other hand uses PPM input so you need a PWM to PPM convertor.
Stick a GPS somewhere and your done.…"

Mike Boland replied to S1CAR1US's discussion Cause of fly away when selecting RTL
"If your compass was out by 180 roll, then yes, this would screw up any auto functions.
Compass is one of the most important, sensitive and troublesome sensors on the aircraft.

Make sure it is calibrated and check the orientation in your GCS is…"

Mike Boland replied to David C Phillips's discussion Drone goes up, doesn't come down.
"The copter had real problems with compass variances and EKF in the red.
A lot of vibration as well which either contributed or raised the issues.

When it comes to EKF problems it is out of my area.
You will probably get better answers by posting on…"

Mike Boland replied to David C Phillips's discussion Drone goes up, doesn't come down.
"Can you put up the .log or .bin file?
Cannot read the .mavlink and is it from the flight controller or the ground station?"

Mike Boland replied to Andrew's discussion APM2.8 not working
"Have you checked the power module under load?
It sounds like the power module is failing when load is applied.
Have you checked the current draw on the power module?
The standard 3DR power module is only rated at 500mA, so a check of the current…"

Mike Boland replied to andycross1's discussion RAW sensor outputs different in ArduCopter User Group
"Nothing.
There is always slight variations in outputs due to variations in the level of the FC.
It's not until it is flying that it can use sensors other than just the gyros, so your best bet is to fly it, after making sure everything moves in the…"

"What firmware are you using?
Have you checked the radio calibration page on your GCS?
Is the throttle and roll moving as expected?
Have you tried recalibrating your radio?
In the HUD on your GCS does the horizon stay level?"

Mike Boland replied to guido fiore's discussion how to recover apm burned? in ArduCopter User Group
"I had a power module blow out and did much the same thing to a Pixhawk.
It would actually still boot and fly quite well, you couldn't connect to it.
I could identify the chip that got fried, the multiplexer I think, but unless you could rework the…"

Mike Boland replied to Spagettilegs's discussion Newbie Question About Batteries
"120A on the 4000mAh30C is right not he edge, you are working it to it's maximum stated capacity. Not a great way to treat the battery and I would watch your discharge and temperatures carefully.
Your 16000mAh10C is rated at 160A so not so bad BUT…"
