Phil Cramer commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Time Magazine cover (with invited piece by me)
"A reluctant +1
I wish I had a 'better' name for our RC devices. Calling them drones is a mistake. Well done Crude. "

Phil Cramer replied to Austin Suhler's discussion Level automatically adjusting in flight...
"Long shot. Check right rear motor temp and see if it's running hot. It might have a problem. Again, long shot guess. "

Phil Cramer commented on Will Snodgrass's blog post GoPro and Gimbal
"I'm surprised no one has chimed in about the new Sony HDR-AS10 Action Video Camera.
Sony's Action Cam site

GoPro has such a huge top-of-mind presence that people don't look much further. I find the Hero's super wide angle…"

Phil Cramer commented on leonardthall's blog post New Throttle PID Idea
"@leonard et al,
Just a weekend shout of encouragement and appreciation from a 'throttle jockey'. Keep up the good work. It's really been a help to those of us who want to have graceful, precise control. "

Phil Cramer commented on Scott Berfield's blog post Finally got around to posting pics
"Good looking quads. Couple of questions, please. I like your new landing gear. What's the material and do you see any aerodynamic effect? What brand of CF props? Your ping pong ball 'stinger' rear end orientation is new to me; innovative. I like…"

Phil Cramer commented on Damian Axford's blog post 3DR Hexacopter - maiden flight to wipeout in 4 days
"@Randy - I've thought about reverse prop nuts and wondered if there were any available. I too wish they catch on. It only makes sense. Reverse threads are used on bicycle pedals and table saw blades for example. I hope you can encourage some…"

Phil Cramer commented on Mark Harrison's blog post Chris Anderson leaves Wired, goes to some startup
"Sometimes you've got to follow your passion. I see this as really good news for those of us 'invested' in 3DR gear.
Congrats and best of luck Chris! "

Phil Cramer replied to bruno lafond's discussion pid diagram ?
"Bonjour, Bruno, c'est va?
Votre Anglais c'est très superior au mon Francais, n'est pa?
Good luck on finding complete and accurate info on the PIDs. They've changed substantially since 2.8.
Have you looked here?…"

Phil Cramer commented on Luis Ramos's blog post Free APM2 Help Manual
"Luis, the "Forward" arrow on the APM board side-by-side photos is backward.
Thanks for your efforts! "

Phil Cramer replied to Drone Savant's discussion Kevin Finisterre, DIYDroneSafety and Drone Savant persona
"Can't we just ignore Drone Savant? He's pretty much ruined his cred here. Replies just encourage. "

Phil Cramer commented on Stephen R Mann's blog post Prop Clearance
"To save weight (I like to keep things as light as I can) you might consider a perimeter wire or string or cord or something. There's a fancy engineering term for the tensioning device like on the Astrodome to keep the walls from falling outward.…"

Phil Cramer replied to Colin Sadler's discussion Which multicopter configuration for aerial video
"Some quick thoughts.
The GoPro is not a good camera for aerial video in my opinion. It's angle of view is too wide, no stabilization, rolling shutter (jello) issues. I prefer an angle more like 80 to 90 degrees like the Sony NEX-5 with the 16mm…"

Phil Cramer commented on John Campen's blog post Hi tech shock absorber legs for multicopters.
"Have you considered using some smaller bottles? Maybe the 1/2L water bottles. Costco sells some heavier bottles branded "Talking Rain" that seem like they would work really well. I have only one on hand here having saved it from a trip because I…"

Phil Cramer commented on Rui Manuel Cravo Marques's blog post Nice video for those who want to start and don't know the basics !
"@Daniel, I too am working on non direct gimbal camera mounts. Direct to servo gives me jitters too. I'm working on a 'boom' type setup with roll and tilt only. I like the idea of having my pricey camera in front between arms rather than underneath.…"

Phil Cramer commented on John Campen's blog post Hi tech shock absorber legs for multicopters.
"I'd be concerned about the aerodynamic properties of these. They seem like they would catch the wind and prop wash. I just used some really light and cheap lengths of pipe insulation. A dollar buys six feet. They're too flimsy by themselves so I put…"
