About Me:

I am a high school pre-engineering student. I enjoy programming, software, robotics, and drones. My year long project is a drone, so I am coming here for guidance from the best.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am building a drone for my engineering project, so I need helping making sure that is a success. I attempted a drone last year, but I did not have everything I needed so it never flew.

"All of the parts showed up, put it all together today and took a test flight. It flies easily and deftly. I'll post a youtube video soon.20150315_171136.jpg"

"This is hobbyking's APM board, the reviews are positive and it should be able to do everything we need to too, and has telemetry for far less cost that 3DR's package:

"I agree having a smaller size would be better, what size would you recommend for carrying one kilogram one kilometer away, dropping it, then flying back unburdened, and costing ~$300 to $400?
Do you know if any cheaper flight controllers than the…"

"We have a makerbot printer at my school, but to fit the large propellors, the frame has to have a 1 foot radius, and at that size I feel like it would get heavy; most 3d print frames are for smaller quads. Is there a particular print on Thingverse…"

"The diy foam tube frame shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XinbTcQAAc
looks like a possible frame that would cost practically nothing.
Its very light, and the lack of hardness means it won't transfer vibrations to the electronics, but that…"

"I did some more research and came up with this:

flight computer: apm 2.6 with ublox gps

     $240

frame: Tarrot fy 650

"I did feel like I had come up with a lot of unnecessary parts but I wasn't sure what to strip.
The frame was also something I had trouble finding, I was trying to minimize radius but I realize that is probably pointless.
Thank you for all the help,…"

Robert Williams replied to Robert Williams's discussion I need advice on a delivery drone build for a high school engineering project
"Thank you for the insight!
-Our minimum range is one kilometer.
-We need enough flight time to make it that far comfortably, but I don't know what ground speed to expect.
-The drop mechanism is a motor with a hook,  bolted to the frame. A box with…"
