About Me:

I come from the hobby FPV community, but i'm serious about development of robotic fixed wing platforms particularly, and specialize in high efficiency long duration airframe design.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I'm interested in development of UAV fixed wing platforms for aerial mapping, and other robotic applications

Spike Webb replied to Bartek Sad's discussion Bad AHRS - Pixhawk
"i had the same thing, and performed an accell calibration, and it fixed it.
if it happens often, apparently, re-arming with the plane still fixes it for some, but this is the long term solution.
hope my experience helps others. "

"Thanks, i'll check out the link.     Which one would support tilt rotors?  "

Spike Webb commented on Andrew Tridgell's blog post Building, flying and not crashing a large OctaQuadPlane
"I only know vaguely of the pixhawk option, and of the open-aero firmware for the KK2 board.    I'd appreciate a link to more info on the code you are referring to, as i'll need something soon.  I'm designing the airframe right now, and testing…"

Spike Webb commented on Andrew Tridgell's blog post Building, flying and not crashing a large OctaQuadPlane
"That depends on the airfoil somewhat, as different airfoils will fly most efficiently at slightly different angles of attack. 3 degrees sounds like a good starting point, and with such a small model, it'll surely work fine.  I'm designing for…"

Spike Webb commented on Andrew Tridgell's blog post Building, flying and not crashing a large OctaQuadPlane
"another factor to some angle of the motors is to achieve hover with the wing at a slight positive angle. that way, as was mentioned before, the rotors are relatively neutral to the airflow in forward flight, the lift motors will also aid speed during…"

Spike Webb replied to Indie Jnes's discussion Gemini V2
"not sure about your E-calc, or how it interprets the data. I get flight time Data from real world testing. actually flying the aircraft until the battery is low, and it is time for re-charge.
The flight time was less with lipo batteries, but with…"

Spike Webb left a comment for Tipu
"Please let me know when you get some of those high energy density batteries in. i would like to do a a review on them. i have an ideal platform for their use. i have already flown almost 3 hrs with regular lipos. and while transmitting 2 video…"

"Where are they actually available? looked for them, and could not find anywhere for sale.
I am looking for  a fairly permanent solution that i can duplicate. thanks! "

"Gemini Version 2 UAV flies for about 3 hrs, and would not be bothered by the payload. also has landing gear, and lots of space.

Spike Webb replied to martin best's discussion are there any custom builders out there
"Opinions may differ, but servos and other flight related things, are considered part of the u.a.v., and usually not part of the payload.  payload is sensors and other equipment that are extra.   if it'a  gas tav of any size or powered by some flavor…"

Spike Webb replied to RaptorUAS MD's discussion RaptorUAS E1 - high performance composite airframe
"very interesting,    makes sense.   i had always thought that a wing designed with little reflex, would also generate less lift, or be less efficient, such as those used on flying wings.  i  would be interested to know which airfoil you are using.  …"

Spike Webb replied to RaptorUAS MD's discussion RaptorUAS E1 - high performance composite airframe
