Steve Maller commented on Robert Hoermann's blog post Soon availible... Redundancy for autopilots
"I fly a big octo that I have outfitted for dual operator. My camera op has a Spektrum DX8, and in an emergency, I'd love for him to be able to take the helm with that transmitter and fly the copter home. Of course, that's impossible right now, but…"

Steve Maller commented on Robert Hoermann's blog post Soon availible... Redundancy for autopilots
"My own analysis of failures from many crashes and near crashes (some mine, many of others) indicates that the #2 cause of failures is related to power systems, not guidance systems. I'd like to see a truly redundant power system with dual batteries…"

Steve Maller commented on Mike C's blog post FIRST ICE COPTER - and it worked :-D
"OUTSTANDING! Loved it. Fantastic edit on the video, too.
Might I suggest concrete next time? :-)"

Steve Maller commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Drone dance performance
"Fascinating! Really impressive tech behind this. I can’t wait until some of this gets commercialized. The applications are nearly infinite."

Steve Maller commented on Steve Maller's blog post The end of my quad
"I must admit I was a little cavalier, and did not follow sound practices with this copter. I also fly a Cinestar 8, and I'm super diligent about pre-flights and safety procedures."

Steve Maller commented on Steve Maller's blog post The end of my quad
"@Graham,
I have (or had, more accurately) the 3DR RTF quad kit with the little Flysky TX. I didn't make any changes to the stock TX/RX. But the copter was flying in "AUTO" mode (pre-programmed with Waypoints from the Mission Planner software), so…"

Steve Maller commented on Steve Maller's blog post The end of my quad
"OK, I'm very encouraged. Here is a map showing what might have happened. The trees in this area are probably at least 50-60 feet high, and if the default RTL altitude of 15m was used by the copter, it's almost definitely in the trees."

Steve Maller commented on Steve Maller's blog post The end of my quad
"I've been thinking all night about this situation, and now I have another theory: maybe RTL did engage, but the copter ended up in the trees that you can see to the right of Waypoint #3 in the picture. This is a stand of tall trees, and my…"

"@Assaf,
I am a strong supporter of Israel and have been there several times. I was just asking because there's nobody more diligent about homeland security, surveillance, and protecting their people than the IDF. But maybe because of the aggregate…"

Steve Maller commented on Steve Maller's blog post The end of my quad
"Unfortunately it was at low tide. The water's really deep, and there's a strong riptide on these beaches (no swimming anywhere!), so if it did drift in the tides at all, it'd be towards the open ocean. I'll go walk the dog down the beach this…"

Steve Maller commented on Mike Bristol's blog post 3D Printed Quad Video
"Fantastic! Most be very satisfying to have her in the air now.
Could you estimate the cost of the print material? What material are you using? And what software do you use to do the 3D files?"

Steve Maller commented on Steve Maller's blog post A more complete video of an autonomous flight
"About to do another blog post, but to answer @Euan’s question, I just did a 12.5 minute flight with a mix of pre-programmed moves (up to 100m altitude) and just flying around the field. More details in the next blog post..."

Steve Maller commented on Jonathan Arad's blog post Epic FPV - Caesarea Maritima
"Beautiful. Such a magnificent location.
Does Israel permit private UAV flights? Or do you just try and grab flying times when nobody's around? I would think the Israelis would be pretty protective about this kind of thing."
