About Me:

Software engineer, outdoor enthusiast, runner who hates running, mountain biker without a bike.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

5 years of flight experience, mostly non-FPV. I got into FPV shortly a couple years ago, and then picked it up again late 2013. I've had perhaps 50 FPV flights on my Skywalker and a few on my HT-450 quad. I'm currently starting up a business for UAV mapping/surveying/plant stress mostly for ag land. Also looking into power line corridor surveying, real estate videography, sensitive species areas, and land development surveys.

"3DR customer service comes through!  Just got a reply and looks like this should be all I need:

Thank you for contacting 3D Robotics Technical Support.
I hope you are having a great day.
Sure, you will first need to download the Stick software so…"

TwoHeadsBrewing replied to TwoHeadsBrewing's discussion 3DR EAI - Mapping Software without buying the entire package
"I was referring to the package that 3DR sells:  3DR DIY Mapping Kit
I already have the equipment necessary, and have made a USB trigger which works fine with my camera using CHDK.  What I'm wondering is if there is a place where I can get the custom…"

TwoHeadsBrewing posted a discussion
I'm currently using a Talon XUAV with a Pixhawk and a Canon SX260 for mapping purposes.  I'm running CHDK on the camera, but would like to use the complete 3DR Mapping Package solution.  However, since I already have all the parts, I don't wish to…

"I was flying from the valley into the foothills so I'm not exactly sure. But the altitude above home position was 3500 ft."

"And here is my Skyhunter.  A joy to fly, and my favorite plane for FPV to date.  Stable, efficient, and lots of room inside!  My max range is just over 14 miles for now, but I'm aiming for 25 miles with some minor tweaks.  With the 8000mah I can get…"

TwoHeadsBrewing replied to Jérôme Niklès's discussion MinimOSD - Black screen/no image
"Where is the best source to buy a replacement?

After having mine work great for a few months, I no longer get any video.  Hooks up and updates via FTDI just fine, and lights on both sides are on, but no video.  This thing is like the achilles heel…"

"Does the Pixhawk control the servos for leveling, or does it need an external gimbal controller?"

TwoHeadsBrewing commented on Jeff Taylor's blog post APM to CHDK Camera Link Tutorial
"Thanks for the tutorial!  Is that script really necessary?  I can already trigger the camera by the trainer switch on my Tx.  So if I set up the Mission Planner to send a servo signal on the same channel, won't that trigger the camera?  Or is there…"

TwoHeadsBrewing replied to John OBrien's discussion Help - FatShark 600TVL CMOS camera - MinimOSD problem
"I've run my batteries as far down as 11.1v (3.7/cell), and the OSD still works fine.  I don't think there will be a problem with 10.5, but I'm not sure since I don't run my batteries down that far."

TwoHeadsBrewing replied to John OBrien's discussion Help - FatShark 600TVL CMOS camera - MinimOSD problem
"What I've done is create my own custom wiring from servo cables.  The 12v power and ground flows from battery -> MinimOSD -> transmitter.  I've soldered up a splitter off the XT60 battery connection, so that one set powers the APM/Pixhawk, and one…"

TwoHeadsBrewing commented on Matt Gunn's blog post How to trigger a Canon camera through an RC transmitter
"This seems so simple, but I don't think I'm connecting the wiring right.  Just to clarify:

1. I connect the servo wire from the Turnigy switch to my intended switch channel on the Rx (in this case CH7).
2. I'm powering using a 5v Castle BEC
Here's…"

TwoHeadsBrewing commented on Nicholas Witham's blog post New product: Downward facing camera gimbal
"This looks like a great product.  Is it possible to fit this in an earlier model Skywalker with the more narrow fuse?  I'm assuming this would also fit fine into the Skyhunter due to the large capacity."
