Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Quads and gliders. My quad has been a quick development to take some aerial photography on a 4wd trip along the Simpson desert. I am on my second frame design that now folds up nice and tight and also carries the go pro effectively. It has pitch compensation through the ARM2 and 5.8GHz video feed back to some Fatshark goggles. I am happy with the pids but I feel like loiter could be improved. Most of my tuning problems have come from the absence of the latest control loop descriptions on the wiki. But that goes with a community development like this. Maybe when I have time to go through the code I can draw up some new diagrams for the wiki. I have broken 6 props, 5 on parts of my body an 1 on the ground. I had an esc cut out and tilt the quad into my legs on landing. I reset the esc's and forgot to reset the cut-out. I then had a mystery takeoff at my feet as I was downloading logs. I had plugged the battery in because I sometimes have trouble connecting when only powered by usb. Stupid mistakes.... All in all I am happy with my first attempt, especially as I really only spent about 4 days over the last 4 weeks working on this and it is my first quad attempt. I would like to thank the DIY drones team for a fantastic job and I hope I can help in the future.

"Yes, again it is a setting that has been in there for a very long time when using the interlock option on ch7. The next release we will have an arming switch like many mini-quad users like. In general we will be trying to line up our interface optio…"

"The self leveling part can be turned on or off and could be when it was first updated. It can also be adjusted to the taste of the user. BetaFlight has since implemented a similar feature called horizon mode that is quite popular.
So it is true rate…"

leonardthall replied to Geert Pirens's discussion after doing the AutoTune the drone becomes too responsive (over sensetive)
"Autotune tunes each axis independently so the roll and pitch pids are then different. The tick box is just something in mission planner and not in the autopilot so when mission planner sees the values are different it unticked the box. Tamás Ferenc…"

"Hi Shaun,
The other thing I noticed is you are doing all this with a hover throttle of 12.5% and your minimum throttle is set to 25% of the PWM range. What was the reason for setting the Minimum Throttle so high?
The other thing that might be worth…"

"Hi Shaun,
The problem I think we have here is you you some very high rate vibration. I think the main problem frequency is 65Hz or 3900rpm. We don't log this (I think we should) so I don't know exactly what normal is.
This is probably your blade pas…"

"Sorry for the delay mate,

I have been very busy but I will get to you. It looks like you have vibration but I need to characterise it and it will take an hour or so of time and that is a little hard to find right now."

"Hi Shaun,

Could you do a 4 minute flight with the Log Bit Mask of : 786429

Could you make sure you have a fast SD card in the pixhawk. (like as fast as you can get)

Just a Stabilize for the first minute
Alt Hold for the second minute
Loiter for t…"

"I would say anything bigger than 15" props would be getting there but it also depends on whether or not you have ESC braking available.

Let us know how you go!!

Randy did a great job extending the autotune page in the Wiki!!"

"Hi Paul,
You can choose what axis to tune by setting the Autotune_Axis variable to 3.
So why is your copter crashing during yaw tuning?
Do you have a log?"

It is worth keeping in mind that for integration into the EKF it is probably easier to detect and handle an instantaneous change in position than a gradual change in position when you go from RTK to normal GPS.
