marc.kulhavy replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"Leonard and all the others,
thank you for your time and findings. I will inform the owner of the copter about what you all have found out.
What you say makes sense when I review the logs now, a second and third opinion always helps. The good thing…"

marc.kulhavy replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"Cala, thanks for tuning in!
I did not fly nor build the copter and the pilot couldn't remember exaclty when he switched back to manual mode or how long he tried to countersteer against the yaw.
Can you tell me more about the Clips as it seems that I…"

marc.kulhavy replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"Darius,
The .tlog and the Pixhawk-log is all I have.
As far as I can see from the logs, the direction north (360°) was intentional as the mission had to continue in this way. But the drop back to 0° DURING auto mode is suspicious.
I know the basics…"

marc.kulhavy replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"Michael, will do that. As I did not fly the copter nor do I have access to it, it will take a while before I get the desired data."

"Peter, we did not try that."

marc.kulhavy replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"Yes, flying with only 7 props has been tested, the last test this morning.
https://youtu.be/JhRMA9Hvj50
As you can see, the copter flies nicely without one prop attached. The motor mounts were not loose before or after the crash, no twisted booms or…"

marc.kulhavy replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"Michael, thank you for taking a look!
It's an X8 and even with one motor completly shut down, it won't spin.
After a whole day of bench-testing, no mechanical or electrical issue could be found.
So if there was no failue in the frame causing this…"

Can anybody help analysing the cause of this crash? The copter started a test mission without any troubles and after reaching a waypoint, he started to yaw constantly but continued to follow the mission path. After a couple of seconds the pilot…

marc.kulhavy replied to William Fernandez's discussion UAVs for 3D modeling
"William,

you are welcome. We all are here to learn and share our knowledge. The UAV-newby-feeling is nothing to be ashamed of. Even though I build my own models for over 25 years now, i was sweating like sitting in hell when I made my first small…"

marc.kulhavy replied to William Fernandez's discussion UAVs for 3D modeling
"William,
I found out its best to let the software do the lens calibration for every job dynamically rather then doing a fixed precalibration. As temperture, aperture and focal point vary, a precalibration makes only sens in terms of a quicker first…"

marc.kulhavy replied to Nicholas C Brewer's discussion Best Drone for Aerial Photography, but Specifically for 3D Surfaces
"Nick,

if you have 10 hectars divided in a couple of segments, I would stick to a multicopter. Accuracy mostly depends on the resolution of the camera sensor, the quality of the lens, shutter speed, ISO setting, precision of the used ground control…"

marc.kulhavy replied to Nicholas C Brewer's discussion Best Drone for Aerial Photography, but Specifically for 3D Surfaces
"Hi Nick,

yes I meant digital elevation and surface models. I understand the wish to have a multicopter, thats how I started with mapping jobs, too. But quickly I turned back to airplanes (being an rc aircraft pilot and builder for over 25 years),…"

marc.kulhavy replied to William Fernandez's discussion UAVs for 3D modeling
"I use airplanes (a strongly modified Maja 2,2m wingspan) most of the time for mapping purposes with cameras like the Nex7, Alpha6000 and similar, including dual camera mounts for Visible/NIR/IR photography. I can reach a GSD of 5mm and a one flight…"

marc.kulhavy replied to Nicholas C Brewer's discussion Best Drone for Aerial Photography, but Specifically for 3D Surfaces
"Do you talk about DEM or DSM? With or without buildings mainly? What area do you want to cover?
Did you concider using an airplane instead of a multicopter? What resolution / GSD do you need to achieve?
I use airplanes mainly for orthophotos and…"

marc.kulhavy replied to Tamás L. Páll (Tom)'s discussion Maja +APM help needed.
"Pall, I hope you have reworked and reinforced the rudders and hinges on the Maja, as they are super sluggish and ineffective and especially the ailerons can have a negative yaw effect on the plane. I do replace the whole rudders on the Majas I…"

marc.kulhavy replied to Global_Saffer's discussion Recommendation Needed: Aerial Imaging, 2D 3D Mapping, and IR images
"I would recommend a fixed wing aircraft. I use mine more often for aerial mapping than my copters. And, the airplane is cheaper than a copter, has a longer endurance and covers a lot more area.
I use Sony Nex cameras and most customers are happy…"
