  • Would this be able to carry a NEX7 with a 4000mah 3S with the APM 2.5 and FPV gear? I am currently using an X8 which flies lovely in calm winds but it very big and gets knocked about a bit in transport...I have heard good things about the X5 and am just curious tio see if it is capable of carryin the gear that I have currently in the X8 which is quite lightweight.. Thanks, love the colour by the way :)

  • Flight time is not important for this wing, as I only fly VLOS. Battery capacity is 2*2200mah. I think it should be good  for at least 40 min. I use two batteries to get the correct CG, not for long flight time.

Camera: IXUS 220HS mounted in anti-vibration foam.

Motor: Turnigy Aerodrive sk3 1340 kv

    esc: Turnigy Plush 40 Amp

    Total weight: 1.15 KG

  • Very nice setup, what kind of flight times, and motor/esc/lipo are you using? I've been trying to build a phot mapping aircraft for a while, tha last one came out way to heavy at 5kg. Also bought an x8, but that's also too big/heavy. I have one of these on order.

I'm using an ixus80 while I do my tests. I've also been looking at roll gimbals.

  • VLOS is less than 1 km^2

  • DIY X100?? Very nice work! What area & resolution can you map in a single flight?

  • It is covered with thin carbonfiber-lookalike-vinyl. Camera is controlled by a chdk-script. I have no roll gimball in this plane, but in the future i will. I hvae done some tests with my bixlerdrone with roll stabilization.
  • Hi Ole,

    Nice looking plane,

Can I ask what you have covered it with and how are you triggering the camera, are you going to use a roll gimbal?
