$3 gyro ?

I just stumbled across this 300 deg/sec rate gyro -Description - http://embedded-system.net/lisy300al-single-axis-yaw-rate-sensor.htmlDatasheet - http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/ds/14753.pdfThey're talking about $2.50 in volume for the chip. It's analog only, which is unfortunate (where's the SPI or I2C interface ?), but at the cost level, might still be a significant breakthrough.

  • We are getting first parts from Digikey this week. Single piece price is closer to $12, but it drops below $10 in moderate quantity. First SRV1X IMU/GSP/SD boards using the gyro will be available in about a week.
  • This would be great! Even $10/unit would be a significant improvement. I'll believe it when I see it Q3 this year.
  • Wow, that is super cheap!

ADC chips are pretty cheap and simple. I wouldn't say analog is really that big of a drawback if you can get it this cheap.

Here is code for getting the $3 MCP3202 talking to an Arduino over spi.
  • ST Micro is a $10 billion company, so maybe there's a better chance they can hit their target.
  • Invensense originally targeted $2 per axis. They're now all the way down to $17 & into series C funding.
