ArduCopter Traditional Heli Altitude Hold

Been out testing today with my Razor600e.

Wind was Blowing around 8-10mph on the ground, you can hear it on the video.

Testing altitude hold.

I'm still having trouble with the tail control but i think i have the Altitude Hold is sorted out now.

Running Code Version 2.0.38

Had a few small problems with the P value. Oscillations were pretty bad before I lowered it.

Touched the ground a couple of times.

Had a few small issues when i changed to Loiter mode but i need to talk to randy.

It seems to be holding certain values when i switched out. Tried after i made the video to do some more Alt_hold

and it kept going up until it hit the same level as it was when i had it in loiter.

But i think i'm getting there.

Will post the Log file in my discussion.

  • Hi Austin have a look at the wiki. I use a miniature aircraft Razor600e as you can see in the video. Robert is using a Trex600E, Randy is using a Trex 450, There are a few others using Trex500's.

You will need an APM 1 or APM2, the software is in a more stable state for the APM1 for Traditional Helicopters. But the APM 2 has better sensors and it wont be too long until the software is equal. The downside is, there is a wiating list for APM2.

You will also need a Mag (compass)and optional Sonar

This hardware will get you in the air. Have a look at the main Helicopter Discussion here.

This is where a few of us are working through issues, talking about ideas, etc. have a read from about page 10 onwards. There is a lot of info. I also wrote a document which is a bit out of date but will give you an idea of how to connect the APM, program, Use Mission Planner,  download logs etc

  • Austin, what exactly do you mean by hardware?  The heli?

  • Looks impressive. I am hoping to do the same kinda thing but with a DSLR pan and tilt on the front. Any advice on which hardware to purchase? Thanks austin.

  • Thanks Martin hopefully if the weather clears i'll get over to you :)
