There are a lot of people talking about banning drones. They claimed that drones would fly over their backyards and capture their privacy. Does it really the reason people want to ban drones?
First, the problem is how to define a drone? You may think a drone is unmanned aerial vehicle. But how about an model plane with a camera on it? I have seem such model plane with autocontrol device can fly 1000feet high, it can definitely watch your backyard Should we ban these model planes? If yes, then how about the RC toy with camera which I bought from walmart? Maybe people may say drone is something with automatic control.
Then, think about the smart phones we are using. A lot of apps can activate the cameras and microphones on you phone automatically and secretly, your location, your conversation, your image could be captured and uploaded to somewhere. I would say your smart phone is more a spy than an UAV just fly by. Should we ban our smart phone? I guess it is impossible. Why? because everyone gets benefit from using smart phones, they are helpful.
So why people want to ban drones? Because the drones have not been widely applied in our daily life, people haven't get benefit from them. Maybe in next 15 years, when automatic machines are everywhere, people will get used to them.
Privacy? I think it is just an excuse.

I don't understand why people are so concerned about privacy because it has a camera. I've heard excuses that they can be used to spy on people or film private property.......Please, peeping toms and the like have been doing this for years, just as people for years going on vacation or what have you and filming, taking photographs for the memories with private property in the background. But instead of doing the smart thing and prosecute someone for breaking a law when they're in the wrong, they want to broadsword the whole issue and try to ban drones..... If we follow that logic, then we should have banned cameras a long time ago, just because of the peeping toms and people wanting to use it for nefarious reasons.
When cars were new technology (horseless carriages), people were afraid of cars. Laws were passed to require that someone walk in front of a car waving a red flag to warn people that a car was approaching. That seems silly now, but it was a big deal to people back in the day.
I think the reaction to privacy is similar. When the usefulness of unmanned vehicles is seen, the fear will subside.
I think a lot of people genuinely believe there is a privacy issue because they don't understand that current laws already protect them from being filmed or photographed where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
