Local quad "expert" asserts that there will be a series of major incidents worldwide using "drones" in the next 6 months.

CAA (NZ) says drone technology has outpaced its regulations and it needs to move with haste to get new rules in place to keep our air space both safe and under some sort of control.

  • The PDF file is on my laptop not online ... this forum seems it only accepts pictures or web links ...

  • A sad example of regulation:
A nicely restored DC3 was flying scenic flights in NZ for many years, but now she has to go to the museum because of over regulation, bureaucracy and licensing issues. What a shame!!!
  • @Reuben
just place the URL link of the PDF file in your text
  • Ok Guys ... Here is the latest news on the CAA developments regarding UAV, UAS and RPAS..Any suggestions ? regards Reuben

Update: I cannot seem to place a CAA  PDF file here .. is it possible ?

  • Well, I'm brand new to the UAV hobby, and have only a few short flights under my belt with my Phantom... And even I was wondering why in the world he was flicking the joysticks like that. In my learning to fly, I find a gentle touch on the controls to be perfect... Smooth flight, smooth video. And not near an airport!

  • @darrell the 5k is a first time thing for admin fees & approval process , it is around $500 a year renewal but then the real kicker is insurance im yet to look into pricing of that yet but i hear thats when most people decide to not go ahead with the OC process , as it stands here in aus to fly a quad for commercial use or outside of a club you do need a OC from CASA and to obtain it requires the same basic knowledge that fixed-wing and solo rotary pilot's need to get there license. when you start adding fpv gear ect the weight gets up there and can do real damage or even kill. someone asked earlier how many people have died so far? well two last year that i know of and while they where not auto-piloted they were model aircraft so who's to say it will not happen.

  • Darrell
In NZ you not even need insurance for your car....
And does having a license avoid terrible accidents on the road???
You can cause an accident with a pushbike, do I need a license for that as well???
  • @Darrell, I'm not quite sure what you're getting at.  I have insurance.

  • Rob
If I fly somewhere, and someone doesn’t like or feels threatened I go somewhere else where I think no one will be disturbed without any argument, I don’t need any regulations or law for that.
And if I causes damage to someone else, I will be held responsible for it. For that there are lots of laws in place already.
  • Richard thanks for your trust, but
even if I could I wouldn’t, because I would work very hard to bring the peoples freedom and prosperity back, but then I know as history shows I wouldn’t live very long. ;-)
