DroidPlanner 2 - Official Stable Release

It is our pleasure to announce the first public release of DroidPlanner 2.0 on the Google Play Store.  It represents a complete rethinking of the way users interact with autonomous aircraft.  

The goal was to simplify workflows, provide more glanceable information and increase overall reliability for the most common user interactions. The biggest changes are as follows:

  • Completely redesigned graphical user interface

  • Mission editing including survey

  • Quick actions including Land and Loiter

  • In-app RC Radio Configuration

  • Phone-specific layout

  • Improved Guided Mode

  • Dialog for Bluetooth device selection

In DroidPlanner 2.0 you’ll find two primary screens for interaction: Telemetry and Planning.  From the telemetry screen you can quickly assess overall aircraft health and what it is doing.  You can also enter Guided mode at your current altitude with a long press--give it a try!  Other quick actions from the Telemetry screen include Land, Home (RTL), and Loiter.

The Planning screen has been redesigned to allow users to quickly make and manage simple missions while at home or in the field.  Takeoff, Waypoint, Land, and Survey are currently supported, with more mission construction elements coming soon.

You’ll find some features left out from the original DroidPlanner.  They will be added back in soon after thorough testing.  Notably, plane support, more mission items, improvements to Follow-Me, and more support for in-flight tuning are around the corner.

  • Ok, so I just went out and purchased a Google Nexus 10, installed all the latest patches and have installed Droid planner 2 from Google Play.

    Using a Belkin OTG cable I could not get DP to connect to my Apm via radio link.

    In desperation I then installed another app called MavLink Hub which is described as a proxy server for Mavlink, after install DP now connects and I do most the things I would do in Mission Planner.

    But my question is, do I have to have Mavlink Hub installed? If so could the docs be edited to make that clear or if not, why did it start working after installing Mavlink hub?

    Thoughts?

    Hey guys, sorry for the delay. Here are your answers:

    @Joe: HDOP doesn't show anywhere now, bu we have an issue for that open already. In the mean time you can look at the top bar on where it shows the GPS fix type and number of satellites.

     

    @Adriano: Using only DP no, because there is some safety checks run on ArduCopter code at the moment. What I usually do is plan a mission with the first waypoint being a takeoff waypoint, arm the copter with the remote, switch to AUTO, and give it a little bump on the throttle.

  • I think you will have to set the radio to not enable failsafe.. then you will have to program in a launch cammand as the first way point...

    Then you will have to hit the safety switch to engage after power up and connected to the gps, telemetry radio etc..

    I have not done this as I aways want to be able to take control if need be... 

  • Hi Arthur, do you know if it possible to take off using only the droidplanner? if yes, do you have any place that I can look?

  • Not sure If I'm missing it or it is not there, but is there a place to see HDOP? This is important as I would not even try to fly a mission with high HDOP.

    Anyone know where the map cache files end up when using APM Planner 2 on a Mac?

  • Awesome program so far.

    How should offline maps work? I've checked off Settings/Advanced/Use Offline Maps but I get nothing. Also tried searching for ok maps in Google maps to cache map and then moving maps to DP 2 folder but nothing.  Probably my error but any hints are appreciated.

    @Brad: Soon. And the "path" idea fits into what we have in mind.

  • When will follow me be implemented in Droid Planner 2 and it should have "Path" so it follows exactly where you went. This way if you are riding a bike down a street with lots of trees and you turn a corner it doesn't run into a tree.
