In light of the recent "Drone Slayer" in the news, we wanted to make a video to show what the common hobbyist drone can actually see from 200' up.
The drone slayer being William Meredith of Kentucky who shot down a drone he said was hovering as low as 10' over his yard. It turned out that after the drone pilot released his DJI Phantom 3 flight record, the drone was flying no lower than 193' above the house.

Agree Bojan with a rifle not to bad but the story has him using a shotgun. Even with full chock any kind of shot would have a big spread. If it is moving and he hit it with a rifle that would be even more impressive.
As someone who is an accomplished skeet shooter and sporting clays shooting a quad at 193' is very impressive. he may have very bad judgment but is a good shot. Probably a bad combination.

Maybe not. It appears that 83' is the precedent. Of course, this stuff is in flux.

There is need the independent certified public flight log source. If somebody wanna be safe they may be use the specialized inet service or any another method for make available the open public access for his drone telemetry instead =)

Wow, I just read an article about this and all the commenters are saying the drone person faked their logs!! Why do they believe some trigger happy redneck over a complex set of telemetry logs?
And people keep talking about taking pictures of someone "illegally".. Is that even a thing? With everyone having cell phone cameras attached to their hands, I just assume everyone is always taking a picture of me!! I find my face on facebook and similar sites where I don't even have an account, because I'm in other peoples pictures!
It's good to show that you can't see much from those heights. I'm curious what the video would look like at the same heights taken in 4K and then post processed with some zoom down to 1080p or 720p. It's not like you'll see a lot of detail but it would make a bit of a difference.
It's still not so sneaky with the sound of the props as someone who just points their smartphone over a fence silently. I'm sure with a zoom lens and decent gimbals, you could do more but the same could be said of using just your camera with a zoom from a second story window as well.
It's a well done video. While I understand the target for the video is to show when you're in a neighborhood, what you can actually see from the air, but regardless, it's still somewhat dangerous to fly in that kind of an area.
The shooter probably didn't know about flight logs :)
